Hey, I guess it's my introduction to let you know that we're already planning the next Salt Talks get-together - for Sunday, 12 August 2007. For my birthday gift Nancy bought me a portable gas grill, so we'll have heat sooner -- the burgers won't be so rare. We're planning on not taking the bikes out of the trailer 'til Monday, so we won't have the issue that we did last year -- we qualified her bike Sunday afternoon and had to hurry to get out of impound and to the bend in the road to start setting up.
The "raffle" went over pretty well last year -- so we'll try it again. Maybe we'll learn from our errors, though, and have two crews selling tickets so we can keep things straight -- and moving. If you've got stuff you'd like to donate to the raffle -- get in touch with me.
Remember that the Annual Salt Talks Land Speed Racer gathering is a self-liquidating fund-raiser for landracing.com -- we pay for the t-shirts that we sell, we pay for the food and drinks and the prize at the 50/50 drawing -- and landracing.com gets the rest.
We'll try something this year -- a pay-as-you-go lie-detector system to make sure that nobody exaggerates about how fast he used to be, or how fast he would have gone if the motor hadn't lunched at the one mile, or whatever. If you hear a story that you think is a stretch of the imagination -- you'll post a "protest fee" and we'll use the lie detector to see if you -- or the liar -- pays into the fund. Sound like a good idea?
