What are you planning to run??? There are several Mfg's that make welded racing wheels
Taylor made wheels in Southern Calif. 323-567-3998
Ken Huff racing wheels 562-943-6877

Depends on what you need. With our front wheel drive liner, we could find no one that would make us wheels with the necessary offset. We got a set of John Deere tractor wheels, cut the centers out, used a billet peice of steel, machined the centers we needed and welded them up. Presto-350 mph wheels. Ordinary wheels should be a lot eassier to find.

Not positve on your needs but stock steel wheels are what most folks use. They just weld the areas where the stock wheel has its attachments. Most are done on the back side. Stock wheels are riveted or stitch welded. Cars I have inspected weld up the spot between the stitches or the entire length where the rivets are....Some weld the front edge too.

Be careful after you do or have the welding done. Check the wheel for true before and after mounting the tire. This should be on the vehicle and the place it will be used....Hope this helps

Also we index the stud to the wheel hole. I know everything is all machined and should be true in rotation, but they work in that location so we never change them.

The Industrial wheels like John Deere and skip loader fronts are a good choice because they are often thicker material that will hold it's shape better through a proper welding procedure.
Riveted wheels are not in common production and loose rivets from very old wheels was the real target of the welding requirement.
The problem that welding an old wheel has is that a lot of paint, rust, dirt, and stuff is lodged forever at the root of the area you are welding.
Proper welding technique and penetration will bring all that trash into the weld and contaminate it and result in reduced strength.

These guys have worked fine for us:

Hooley has gone 240 on their wheels and I've gone 0 on mine .  The price can't be beat (less than $70 each) and they will work with you on the offset and bolt pattern.

c ya,

While we?re talking wheels, are spindle mounts acceptable to use for fronts?  If OK is has anyone got an opinion on their use one way or the other?
