The So Cal lakester:
« on: December 22, 2004, 01:13:00 PM »
I was not able to attend the October meet,(damn work keeps getting in the way!!!) and therefore missed the unvailing of the new So Cal lakester. I just saw a column from the So Cal boss and he was saying that it set the GBGL record at 179 with only 250 hp. That seems a little lame to me as I would think that with all of their hi tek support from GM they would 1. Have some really slick shape and aero stuff, which would make it easy to go over 200 with only 250 hp or 2. With all of the GM help you would think that a supercharged 2 liter, four valve engine would certainly make more than 250 hp! I have seen a picture of it from the October meet and it looks like they have done some aero "cobbling" to maybe get some extra down force.

Rex,

The car had teething problems. It did run in the low 80s. They also had some procedure issues which required a rerun with a different driver.

We ran a G/GL AT 305 HP AND 2 LITER IT GOES OVER 214.. SO A 2 LITER BLOWN CAR AT UNDER 400 HP IS A JOKE..

So a 1.36 liter blown engine with 600 hp and 34 ft pounds of torque in the same car could go faster..?

I am not sure what your point is other than to show how happy you are with your engine though I did not know it could rev that high.. With 34 ft lbs you have to take that one to around 93,000 rpm to find 600 hp, but I am sure you can do it. Pissing contest over you can win I don't need to.

Noonan has a right to do a little bragging, it takes 400 hp to 256 but he needs the other 200 hp to drag along that set of "brass boys" between his legs!

Really 600 hp from 1.36 is impressive, but as usual the first guy never has a chance, the F1 BMW engine that they ran back in 83-84 was 1.5 liter and it made 1400 hp in qualifying configuration, and on gas, and it would do that for several minutes! Now that's the one I want for my lakester!

To John Noonan - this guy done a great job on his bike - I think only on his return run during the World of Speed in rain and wind, he got the guts so as all the other riders who runs there bikes on so high speed at the salt. At first first - do it yourself...
To the SoCal lakester, when he first appeared at the salt, the car body was different - more worst than now - but he is still a lifter, will go very light on the rear end by high speed. Also the fin is a nightmare. Due to this that he runs the same/similar engine as the Saturn Coupe, which runs over 200 mph, it looks so that they got some mechanical problem. The record they set was under 180 mph due to this that the qualifier was done in the third mile at the short course, so for the record only the third mile counts when he done the return run on the long course - he went out with over 185. So I'm sure we will see some more of this car.
