Why can't I run a flat-floor streamliner in motorcycle classes?

I'd been thinking about a flat-floor motorcycle streamliner for several years but hadn't done anything about it while I pursued an APS configuration. Then, a couple of weeks ago I came upon a thread on this board that said flat-floors were no more.

If this is true, tell me why. I still think it's one of the better schemes for going fast on two wheels with no agony.

How far can it lean over before tripping the tip over switch. there is a limit in the rule book

I could be wrong but I believe the minimum lean angle without anything touching the ground is 20 deg.

I think the 20 degs. is correct  As long as the floor is high enough or narrow enough for 20 deg I think you are ok

Consider the difference in how a rounded body VS a flat will react if it ends up on its side at 300+.

"The vehicle, unloaded, must be capable of being leaned at an angle of 20 deg. (minimum) from the vertical position without touching the ground, other than the tires, without prior contest board approval."

You could always build a flat bottom streamliner and put a sidecar on it.

Thats what Costella and Cunha did with the 8080, and your sidecar, and that silver bullett one and many more.............

The Costalla built 8080 streamliner sidecar was in fact built to be a car. And ran as such. Then morphed into a sidecar. Where it is doing very well. I believe the lean rule was put into effect to bring the SCTA into compliance with the FIA and generally accepted definitions of a motorcycle....JH What is the difference?

Yes it WAS a car, then went to a single drive wheel and forced into sidecar bondage.

How many wheels on the streamliner in question?

Sidecar isn't really considered motorcycle 100% either... They have specific rules for them but some of the motorcycle rules don't affect them the same way for classes etc... Sidecar is a odd class

Two wheels in line.  Engine centerline in the centerline of the wheels.  sidecar wheel and its good.  Read the rest of the rules.
