record research
« on: March 26, 2012, 03:02:44 PM »
I am looking for help to restore a record that was bypassed during rule/class changes.

The record, set in 1985, was 1300-A-F. Under current rules the record would be in the 1350-A-PF class. The old record of 199+ was set by Vance Breese and with class changes it was somehow overlooked. The current record is 169+ and the record holder agrees that there was a mistake made in losing Vance's record.

The old record would show up in a 1986 rulebook which is one of the very few that I do not own.

I would like to list Vance's record as I feel that one's achievements should be honored.

JD, I seem to remember you bringing this issues up a couple of years ago. Do you have details of Vance's record? The research as to why the record was lost has been done, I need entry name and complete record.

Thanks to all in advance,
DW

That didn't take long, thanks Glen.

No need to look it up JD - covered. I will put a 2012 rulebook change notice on the SCTA website.

I remember vividly that record and that it was 199.954 MPH.... I inspected his bike when he showed up that year and subsequently certified his engine...

There was a bit of a "story" in regards to the name of the entry..... Know Vance.... there WOULD have been.... LOL!

I think that may be the Sputhe Sportster.... the bike in question was, to the best of my recollection, a rigid frame drag type bike ... it was open frame.... and he was running some serious nitro in it....

This is Vance's website that lists what he rode at Bonneville and when. Looks like he had his share of bad luck.

Duncan Keller built the engine.
It was also the fastest bike not to break 200mph.
