MOTORCYCLE SURVEY
« on: December 03, 2011, 09:51:39 PM »
Guys and Gals:

I have a graduate school class project I am working on and could use some help.  It's a motorcycle riders survey that I created for my final project and takes a couple of minutes to complete (I timed 2 of my friends).

It is for my Quantitative Communications class and it is just going to be used by me to generate some stats for my presentation to my class in less than 2 weeks.

I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill it out for me.

I am a former motorcycle land speed racer who set a few records at the ECTA a while back, and still keep my hand in it by being the sponsorship coordinator for Bill Warner, who also runs an lsr bike.

The survey can be found at:

http://ku.us2.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0wd6BWm9Mcu4qQA

I got permission from Slim before I posted this up.

Thank you all for your time and help,

Walt

Walt, it took me a bit more than two or three minutes - but only maybe one more minute.  Not a big deal, for sure, and if it helps you it's worth it.

Folks, for great entertainment, ask Walt to tell you (in person only) his story about taking his son to stay for a night on a U S Navy ship docked permanently in Camden, New Jersey.  Said tale kept us entertained for about 20 minutes one night at the Mexican restaurant in Laurinburg.  For that story alone it's worthwhile to help by filling out the survey.

A significant number of people who race motorcycles (like the ones here) do not ride on roads/streets - they are strictly off-road riders and like me, feel that streets are more dangerous than racing.  This may affect your survey results.  Others may/will have a different opinion.

Walt, are you going to (be able to) share the results with us?  I know it's sans personal data, and therefore it should be acceptable for all to see.  Maybe it's got to be kept confidential for reasons of your class, I suppose.  Otherwise, though -- howsabout letting us all know what you learn?

Well, hopefully the term accidents includes off-road, since that's where all of mine have occurred so far.

I have just completed the survey, but I live in England. I hope that does not mess up your results!

Sorry for the delay in replying!  We went to cut down and decorate our christmas tree yesterday!  Also, I guess I need to change my settings so the replies trigger an email notification.

Tom, that's ok, I posted on a number of streetbike only sites, so it will all even out.  Plus, this isn't going to be a published report or used for a thesis or anything, so close enough will be just fine.

Slim, yes, I plan on sharing the results.  Since it is completely anonymous, it will not be a problem.  Nothing from the class has to be kept confidential.  I filled out the survey myself, and I don't even know which responses are mine. Yes, you are right, that story is for in-person only!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to fill it out.  I think you will all find the results very interesting!

We got ours Saturday.  $23 they cut, $24 if we cut.  No tax to pay, either.  Merry Christmas to all.

I couldn't answer most of the questions, since they all pertain to the present day.  I had street bike accident in 1976 which made me go to dirt bikes, then I really started getting hurt.  Had a horrific accident at the sand dunes in 1978 which ended my bike riding altogether.  Found out in 1998 that that accident had broken my neck, which caused spinal degeneration and was the reason I kept passing out when working off of ladders, and had to retire.
But I always wore a helmet, when I had a speedometer I always kept it buried, when I didn't have one I was always going faster than I should have been going.   :?
