Parachute Mounting on a Coupe?
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:55:45 PM »
OK, We're ready to mount the parachute, but not real sure how we should do it. It will be low on the trunk lid. I thought about a receiver/hitch setup, with the receiver coming through the trunk lid.

Can you guys please post pics of how you did it, explain how you did it, etc.?

Thanks in advance!
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

38flattie;
There's probably lots of ways to do it, but I incorporated the push bar mount and chute shroud lines mount into one unit as they both want to be centered to the car. The push bar mount uses a trailer reciever hitch set-up as you suggested, with .25 tabs coming off bottom of outer reciever tube with two hole locations for chute shroud line connection.

Make sure you use a large enough bolt and I would reccommend at least a 1" diameter at minimum bushing the chute line will need to go around. I looks like Cajun's is nylon which is good choice. Make it easy to remove. At Bonneville we wash our chute after every run. Dip it in 5 Gallon buckets of water and hang from the cover shade while we service the car. They always seem to be dry when we are ready to pack.

I don't know what size chute you have for your car but the bigger they are the harder they hit. You may be adding vents or choking it down if it is a tri-form style. Hope you run 175 so you can "need" it.........................Good Luck

Jimmy Six, I agree with at least a 1" bushing,, I used a 1 1/4"  solid aluminum rod then drilled a 1/2' hole and used a 1/2" grade 8 bolt,,, It works great.
Also a soft hitting Stroud LSR Chute.

Thanks for the info and pics, guys! This gives me somewhere to start.

As for 175, I wish! If we can hit the 160's, I'll be thrilled this year!
