I'm not trying to change the rules, but....
« on: January 31, 2006, 04:33:03 PM »
.....I've often wondered, not good, why streamliners are the only class along with unlimited diesel trucks that allow more than one engine at a time? It seems that other "special construction category" cars, especially lakesters would have been a natural for multiple motors.

Do any of you guys that have been around for a while (notice I didn't call you old  )  have any history on this and how and why the decision was made to allow multiple motors only in streamliners and unlimited diesel trucks?

Just curious,

Sum

Wasn't there a lakester at speedweek last year with two big block fords? Sorta looked like a dragster.

Some of the guys that have lakesters will turn them into streamliners by covering totally or partially the front or rear wheels or by extending the body or some other part out past the inner plane of the wheels/tires.

Probably what you saw.  Once it is a streamliner then 2 motors are OK.

They made a limited edition Hot Wheels of the 2 motored car that is a real collectible.
The rest is tradition unhampered by progress.

Rich
In 1955 I helped Jack Grubb build a twin engine coupe with two flat heads, one blown and one carburated. We ran on the salt and didn't do well as it was an evil handling car, I made one run around 150 mph. Jack made a few attempts but nothinh fast. We tried to run the drags with it but the car was heavy and to much weight up front. He sold the car and we never saw it again.

MT got home from the races and said " Geez I broke the starter on the Chizler and with just 80 more HP and a little weight on the front end. I can do it."
So he did it under the "Forgivness is easier to get than permission plan".
