/BFMR, and /BGMR Question
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:17:25 PM »
OK, please educate me on modified roadster builds.

One of our team members has a glass '29 roadster. He contacted me today about putting the Jimmy engine in it.

We would run XXO/BFMR, and XXO/BGMR, I think. I can't find those classes in the book, only in the records. :?

So, I assume we would build to the Fuel-Gas specs, and would be allowed up to a 25% setback?

Any advice on this build?
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

In modified roadster the engine could be setback 50% of the wheelbase. Tony

Thanks Tony!

How come I can't find this in the rulebook? Am I looking at the rules for the wrong class?

If it's an Open record, it's not listed.

(If they listed all the Open M/C records, they'd have to publish another book.)

Haha!

Those pages were stuck together on the new book, and I didn't notice.

Thanks Tony!

Stan, I didn't mean to imply that the open record was listed, just the class.

Sounds like you'd run roadster unless you do something to make it modified like run a belly pan or put a nose on it.

Nathen, the plan is to build to the  modified class. That's the request Pete made of me, so that's what we'll do.

Any advice on building one of these?

Look at a whole lot of them that others have built before you even start.

It's a good bet that the XXO/BFMR record won't be Open after Sunday morning at SpeedWeek.

I agree, the record should be in the mid 220s by August 15th. It will take a well built car to win taht one.

That's fine- We're not building for that class because it's open, but because that's where Pete wants to run.

Pete ran Bonneville in the early 50's. He built this roadster to run on the salt, but then decided that he wanted more action than a few runs a year. Now, he wants to realize the dreams he had, and that was for a modified roadster.

Pete's a super guy, and I'm excited about being invited to do this with him. Records or not, it will be fun.

What roadster are you guys referring to, that will put the record in the 220+mph range?

HaHa! I see how it is!

Regardless of the record, I can still use all the advice and direction I can get. The way I see it, the higher the record, the more time and care we will need to use on the build!

I can see that Dan might even be required by his position in SCTA/BNI to not speak about individual entries and the likelihood that any one of them night reach such-and-such speed.  Stan, as the guy that works over the incoming entries, is probably in the same position.  Which leaves it up to you to peruse the pre-entry listing and make up your own mind.  That list will eventually be published - but not for a while yet.  Be patient on that one.
