Camping forbiden on the salt is a BLM Rule not SCTA or USFRA.

From:
http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/salt_lake/recreation/bonneville_salt_flats/events_at_bonneville.html

Quote:
Is overnight camping available? Overnight camping, fires and fireworks are prohibited on the salt flats to maintain public health and safety and protect natural resources. There are no developed campground facilities. Free is available on adjacent public lands. During events participants camp on the mud flats next to the Salt Flats access road.

Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

Jon;
My comments were not in anyway directed at you. Your website is a great forum for land speed racers. And I sure don't mind constructive criticism to someones comments. It's the attacking of someones comments that bothered me.

Enough said.

Being able to stay on the salt would make life alot easier.  I don't have the cash to drop on a tow rig that has living quarters allowing us to stay at the bend.  But a gooseneck trailer with living space is much more feasible.  Racers, not spectators, stay at the track at nearly any other type of automotive outting so it's hard to get used to not having that luxury on the salt.  We as racers need to group together and solve this problem of over priced casinos and BLM not allowing (for reasons I do understand) us to stay with our investments (racecars, tools, etc.).

Well, I changed my mind and rented 2 rooms for my race crew at the Montego Bay for 5 nights, came to $2000+ ouch!! :-( but I really didn't like the idea of no refund if you don't show up!! If something happens to my race car at racing at El Mirage before Speed Week, then I'll go to Speed Week as a SCTA race official to do the timing on one of the three race courses, then while I'm there I will sell my 2 rooms to other racers, so that's my backup plan, hey maybe I could auction them off on E-Bay for a profit, (just kidding), I've always said over the years that it is easier to build a race car than to get a room in Wendover!!  Dave

I believe that our tools and race vehicles are safer by themselves on the salt.  As Jon has stated, they make pretty damn sure the pits are vacant.  And the security at night can see anyone there unless they're operating in the dark.

Most problems for racers have happened in town where lots of folks you'd think were paying attention.

Out of the last six events in the past two years I have lost a lap top, Sirus radio, ice chest with beverages, impound tools and cert cards at race headquarters. DO NOT leave anything in your vehicles!

As the ranger at Gaviota State beach said when I reported the theft of my fishing gear from the campground "roughly 2 percent of the poulation are criminals, what makes you think none of them are fishermen?"

Dan --

That's a big increase.  Do you think it has anything to do with the similar increase in motorcycles?

I am pretty sure you won't get stuck with those rooms come Speedweek..... if it becomes clear that you are NOT going to need them, place ads on here...  and have them send you payment in full through Paypal or something....
