This almost sounds like a joke cartoon that I saw some time ago.... there were several black people who looked like college students all sitting around and talking about seting up a college to address their needs.... the first thing was that it would be blacks ONLY!

And then..... this is real!..... in the 50s and 60s and probably even more recently, gyms were segregated in that WOMEN WERE NOT ALLOWED!... Women finally achieved access to the gyms and almost immediately, they began hollering about sexual harassment and that the only way to get gyms without sexual harrassment was to have gyms FOR WOMEN ONLY!

WTF!.... so like ..... if BUB wants to run a motorcycle only event, why would any of us car guys want to go?.... are we a bunch of women?.... LOL!.... maybe we need to set up an event that is car only as well!......that is what we need the court to grant us the right to have!.....NOT access to THEIR event!

BUB runs a motorcycle only event because they are a motorcycle exhaust system manufacturer. Car guys are not going to be buying their product.

BTW SCTA initially was car only.

Initially no coupes were allowed either, they ran under the Russsetta.  Tony

Fastman, while working on a Top Fuel car in 1975, we towed to Calgary for a race.
Much to our chagrin, we found no beer sales on Saturday or Sunday because one of them was "Queens Day" if memory serves.
What was even more suprising were the dual bar doors each with a gender entrance labeled "Men Only" or "Ladies Only".
Thank God Herm Peterson was sponsored by Heidelberg Beer and had a adequate supply in his trailer.
I won't tell the rest of the story as I don't know how long the statute of limitations is in Canada, and you guy's just extradited The "B.C. Pot King" to the U.S.
Let's just say the memories are a bit "HAZY".                  Bob

Bob, that IS the way it was 35 years or so ago in BC, Alberta.... most, if not all of the rest of the country.... liquor sales were, of course, under the jurisdiction of respective provincial Liquor Control Boards.... and the government agencies still exist in some form or other. Bars were NOT allowed to be open on Sundays until the mid 1980s (in BC, anyway)... in order to buy beer in a restaurant, you HAD to order food....

Today though, liquor is sold seven days a week.... the bars do not have segregated area for men and escorted ladies. etc... and interestingly, the world did not come to a halocaustic end when the rules changed.... to the apparent surprise of those who stated as fact that it would!

Great memories and glad too that they ARE only memories!

Yes they sell motorcycle exhausts.... so does D & D..... affiliated with the Big D Cycle team out of Texas.... and I am a car guy..... and I have motorcycles too... and NO.... I didn't buy BUB pipes for any of them.... but I DID buy D & D pipes for 3 of them so far.

Wendover Nugget taking reservations and not charging until check-in.  Smoking only for double.  $169 weekend days and $140 week days IIRC.  Got mine done so have at it!

I thought I had a room for Speedweek but used an online special event form and noticed some weeks later the reservation posted for September.  So I don't have a room.  I figure I can camp out no problem, and check for rooms daily if I want, but I also see plenty of rooms for "Finals" in October.

I have never been but understand that Speedweek is the big event, a social event, and grassroots racing, lots of vehicles, all the big guys, and lots of runs but I only want to see cars and bikes run and race so tell me, as a spectator, what's the difference on the salt between Speedweek and Finals in Oct 2011?

NVJJC;

I take it you are spectating and not racing, the difference is like night and day.  Speed week is an iconic mix of not just racers, but hot rodders, builders, media, and enthusiast that will take weeks after the event to finish digesting in your mind.  In August the conditions are more reliable, but in October it can have the best conditions, or the worst conditions.  Any time you play on mother natures dry lakes, you are at her mercy.  Look through the different photos posted on the site and see for yourself, the difference in weather.  If you want to see every mix of what a hot rod mind can conger up, come to speed week.  If you want good room rates, and a lesser laid back mix with die hard racers, come to World Finals.  If you want to witness an unbelievable happening, come to Speed Week.  World of Speed in September is just about in between the two events, but they all have the friendliest salt bitten people in the world.  :-)

Yes, my question was from a spectator point of view.  Thanks for the answer and that's about what I figured from reading on-line here and a couple of other places.  I may motorcycle camp for speedweek and keep the room reservations for Finals and see both since I'm close by in Henderson NV.  October would be a good trip in the convertible. August would be good on the r1150gs.  Thanks for the info.  NVJJC

Elko NV is 60 miles, Lake Point Ut is 100 miles. For sure a few people with rooms won't have their rides ready or will kill something on the dyno or testing by speedweek. If you keep tabs on this site starting around mid July, A thread will usually start showing rooms in Wendover folks are trying to get rid of.
Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.
