In the forum archives, under Misc Forums, are Willies Builds.  Plenty of good information for we novices.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Hey all,
Just wanted to give you an update on Willie...
Monday at 7:30 am he will finally be getting his pet scan. As soon as we get the results, I promise to let everyone know the outcome. He has had a few setbacks, but he's still fighting. Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and words. Because of this, we are not walking the path alone. Have a great weekend everyone.

Sheri,

Thanks for the update. Remember we all love you.

Where do I begin???
Went to the ER on Sunday morning. Willie was having a hard time breathing. They did a ct scan and decided to keep him overnight to get a good check on him. Thinking there wasn't much left to do, they set out to release him on Monday morning. Willie told the doc that he didn't want to go home that he was having a really hard time breathing. So the ENT doc came in and looked down his throat with a scope and found that his air passage was about the size of a pen. Needless to say, they decided to do a tracheotomy, so that he could have some relief in breathing. He should be in there for about 5 to 7 days.
Now the bad news....
While in there they explored the site of the cancer growth and they said that it was stage four and the surgery was too far advanced to do in Modesto. They will be sending him to UCSF for his surgery. They will be removing his voice box and will have to do skin grafts for the healing process. We should have an Oncologist coming up to see us within the next couple of days to check on possible chemo and radiation treatments. So, as I get the info I shall pass it on to you. Need sleep...Have to be back up there at 7:30 to feed him. Geez, he won't even let the nurses in ICU feed him. Damn its hard to be perfect....
Got to go...............

Good Morning Willie and Sheri,
We're feeling kinda grumpy that the lakebed might not be dry enough for the last race... and then read news like this. Sure puts it in perspective. It's a good thing Willie insisted on being checked. Thanks for keeping us all updated, we think of you often and send a prayer your way. Jill and Dave

per post reply ,
my dad had a cancer growth in his throat similar to what has been described.. had his voice box removed. he later spoke with a viberating tool that he would hold to his neck.
I would say that the surgery and subsequent chemo / radiation was a sucess SINCE,

....he lived another 22 years.

and failed in unrelated issues /overall health since he was spry 95 years old.....

things aint as bad as you think....!!!!!
