All the excitment for this car happened on Saturday. The last car to qualify they had to forego any impound time and rushed from the end of the track to the start line in order to run.

The Enzo qualified at 237.600, return run at 238.142 for a final record of 237.871.

Great job by a group of nice guys who will be coming back in the near future.

BTW, Stan the club minimum is 260. Minimums can easily be found on the club's website: www.bonneville200mph.org.

The car "fit" into the Mod Sports class, why not run it there? Seems like a smart move to me.

The TO people spend the same monies, same entry feees, same support money, etc., etc. They recieve only the satisfaction of "seeing how fast it will go". Someone step on your 213?

Thanks for the kind words Sparky and John!!

Rick, perhaps I should clarify, when we first decided to bring the car to Bonneville, we contacted several SCTA safety and technical officials, using their understanding of the rules, and class structures, it was determined that the only class we fit into that had a record to use as a milestone, was modified sport.  It seems logical to me, that if a car owner is going to invest the time and money necessary to compete, he may as well go after a record.

Stan, we know what can happen to this particular Enzo when air gets underneath it.  The results are catastrophic!  So yes I was concerned about the aero effects as we were lifting the front end at speed. As I tried to describe in my previous response, one car substantially as produced by the manufacturer, and one highly modified...it's apples and oranges.

Regardless, I am pleased that in one season, we took a reconstructed car, a rookie land speed driver, who was able to get his category D,C,B and A licenses.  We overcame a bunch of mechanical and handling issues, chute problems, and ultimately ended the season as record holders.  And we made a bunch of new friends in the LSR community to boot.  I just could not be more pleased.

Overall I think it was a successful debut of the car, and if we come off as "puffed up", well again, I'm sorry. Perhaps I need to take the sage advice of Elbert Hubbard; "Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway."  so I'll just shut up now.

Personally I take my hat off to you (Stan) guys in bringing Ferrari car #7007 out to the salt to run for a record, congratulations.  It was fun and interesting to see your car up close and personal.  And you did take a big chance on not spinning the car with your stock setup (no added ballast) because in a spin at over 200mph you could have put it on its top, because of the stock big spoiler on the rear of the car catching air, then Oops!!  Not good, so glad you were safe and successful, come back to the salt again!!  Take care, Dave (Avanti Kid Racing).

I was just going to congratulate them on a 1st year record and them forgetting to mention the driver getting into the
2 club, must be a minimum thing.

How hard would it be to create another class in the modified sports category for cars with tops.  Kinda split it up into coupe and topless for cars such as this enzo that are running against cars built like Cooks.  Only mention it because im building a datsun 280z to run in MS also.

Congratulations to the Enzo team.  Didnt get to see them at SW since we left wed morning.  Maybe next year.

How about another one for shorter wheelbase Modified Sports?

And another for only slightly modified Modified Sports?

So we wouldn't have apples and oranges -- only Valencias and Navels.

If 260 is the minimum speed (for that class) to get into the 2 club, why don't they just call it the "C/BFMS 260 club" and forget the pretense of having anything to do with 200 mph?

Ray --

A couple of simple answers.  There are still some open records where going 200 wouldn't be much of an accomplishment compared to the class above or below.  And the Fuel minimums are usually set above the Gas records 'cause Fuel should be faster.  A lot of talented folks have worked on the minimums and they are subject to review.

New class

We would certainly be behind Stan's idea of a new class for minimally altered vehicles which currently only fit into the two Modified Sport categories Fuel and Gas. That would give others who may have a limited production non Domestic coupe or sedan a place to come and play.

As for why we chose Fuel instead of Gas - part of the decision was based on the fact that we could not get the ERC fuel in time to dyno the engine with before Speedweek. All we had available was VP and I didn't feel it was in our best interest to tune on one fuel and switch to the other for actual running on the salt so we stuck with the VP we had on the dyno and went into the Fuel class instead.

It is my understanding that the minimum speeds for the 200 MPH club are adjusted upward based on the technology available. This sort of provides an even playing field for fellows who may have entered the club in years prior and potential entrants to the club in more modern times. Sort of like an adjusted income based on inflation.

Thank you very much to all of those who take an interest in our project and particularly those who went out of their way to see that we got a fair shot at this class record we are proud of our accomplishment and we are especially proud to be a part of this type of racing.

 Hey Shane

Good to see you on here. I am Chris that worked for Kevin and Wendell Chambers. I still hope to build a modified sports corvette for Wendell one day, they have the chassis, just need to build it. It's that easy  :)  No doubt you will be called on to tune it if we ever do that. Congrats on the record and ignore the "puffed up" comments. You are one top notch tuner.

The Ferrari team did good.
However, I'm more impressed by the team who set the roadster record at over 300MPH.
