George Poteet is in the car and about ready to go.  What?, you ask?  What happened to the Spectre?  It seems they found an intercooler trouble -- so while they're fixing the Speed Demon will make a run.

Belting George right now.

Nish has fixed a few things -- found a bad mag and replaced it.  They're planning on making a run this afternoon -- assuming the other cars get done with their efforts.  I asked about that "save the engine by going two miles at a time" idea -- didn't get very cheerful responses!

George is in and they're putting the canopy down.  Engine is started, course is clear.  Gotta go clear the pits.

Speed Demon is moving from the push truck.  Hauling azz, I hear.

Picking up speed.  Through the two mile.  Through the three

Entry speed.    419     mile 415   Chute's out

Slowing well at the two (going to the zero, remember) 417.430 kilo speed  didn't get the mile -- will get it later.

The car is on the tarp.  Crew is working.

Nish is leaving the pit now for the far end, and Ack Attack is going to go there, too.  Poteet gets to run before anyone else, of course.  Nate Jones is looking at tires on the Speed Demon, the crew is working on the car, George is napping inside.

Nish is going up the course.  Wind is about five from far end to here.  Ray the Rat is in the Speed Demon pit snapping photos as fast as he can.  I'm typing and enjoying sitting with Nancy.

Word is that Poteet and Main are dead for now -- lost the turbo (again).  Cancel the return run.

Charlton and the jet bike are still in the pit, hidden from right here by their truck.  Can't tell you 'til I mosey over there, and it's a little hectic here right now.

Spectre has found the problem -- have sent a load of ice for the 'cooler from the pit to the car.

Nish is moving towards the far end -- just radioed in that they'll be at the end in a few minutes.

Speed Demon lost the turbo, all right, but I don't see any physical damage -- no broken parts or bodywork.  They'll cool the engine and see what's going on.  In the meantime, they're moving the car out of the way.  Spectre is pitted after Speed Demon - and will cross right in front of the SD pit.  Gotta move our truck out of the way, too.

Ack just said that in the morning they'll be at the far end by about 6.30 or so -- and will let Nearburg make a first run, then the Ack bike.  Guess that means we've gotta get up early again in the morning.  So much for early-day hymeneal hijinks at the Motel 6, room xxx.  It doesn't get light enough to run 'til about 7.15AM, thankfully.

Speed Demon motor just started and ran for a few seconds - they switched it off then.

Amir is getting in the car.  Not sure if it'll be five minutes or what.  Remember, this'll be a test run to check gearing and such, and also to practice him getting it into the pit and doing the turnaround.  With Nish down there to run and HOPING to qualify -- Spectre/Amir won't plan on doing another run today.  There's only an hour and a half of good light remaining.

Canopy being lowered on the Spectre car.  Course is clear.

Car is moving, past the two mile.  Trucks are blowing horns as they pass.

Through the three and chute is out.  Coasting -- past the four and still moving.

Spectre is coasting, about the six mile, fire truck is driving along with him.

Poteet and Main will run in the morning N/A -- will take the turbo off the car overnight.

No speeds.  He was slow before he got near the first of the lights.  Still barely off the course, and the push truck is behind him so that they can clear the course so Nish can run.

Speed Demon lost the turbo 'cause the oil line to it was blocked.  They thought things went away clean when the first one blew up -- but evidently the line was blocked.  They didn't change oil, thinking they didn't need to do so.  Maybe they shoulda, hey?

Nish is about ready.  Course will be clear in thirty seconds.  Track is clear.  Mike Cook Junior will be running the track for this run -- we're waiting for him to get things started.  Canopy is down on the 998 Nish Streamliner.  Car is moving.

Car is rolling, off the push truck.  Past the one and looking good.

Through the four and coasting -- but rolling fast.

Past the two and still under power!

Slowing. . . slowing.  Through the three and coasting.

Fastest speed for the car today -- 154 in the entry traps.  Exit is 140 mph.

The Nish car is back in the pit.  Early word is that they blew a hose off the intercooler/turbo, and if that's it -- they might put it back together and try to make another run tonight.  If they don't run today -- we'll be done for the day.  Stay tuned 'til I hear a little bit more.  I'll letcha know as soon as I can.

Speed Demon reports they lost a turbine wheel again, same as before.  They're looking on the track for it now.
