Rocky reports the bike wanted to heel over to the right -- even though there was no wind.  He also says "it wants to run!".  Mike Akatiff and crew are thinking on how to tweak the aero now to correct for the little tilt.  Rocky had to get out of the throttle and back into it to keep it on the middle of the tire.

Forgive me as this is highly inappropriate but... maybe they should just tell Rocky to dress left!  :-D

The wind has come up a bit, so Ack bike is still hanging here in the pits, waiting, waiting.

Scott Horner is here and about to make some runs while we wait for the wind for Ack.  Also, Poteet and Main have now finished re-doing the motor to N/A and are trailering to the far end to get into position.  Back to Scott Horner -- he's here with Jamie Wagner.  They're going to try to up the 192 naked record they puton the bike at Bub's, and see if they can get a red hat for Jamie.  Scott says that once that goal has been attained they'll put the bodywork on the bike and "get silly".  FIM Charlie is ready and waiting to supervise the effort.

Ack bike is in position and just waiting.

I found some photosof the Summers Brothers and the Goldenrod, and took one for Charles Nearburg to autograph.  I'll get a photo of it for youse guys -- but no, you can't have it.  It's MINE!  Gottas have a souvenir that'll last for a long time -- this one will go on our trophy wall at home.

In other news, the Spectre car is being readied for a run in the next hour or two.  They're next to us -- bodywork is off and they're going through everything to make sure, then will button up and go racing.

Nish team is still in the pit and working.  Further deponent sayeth not.

And then, before it'd post, I see Debbie's comment.  Oh, Debbie, how did you get to see so close-up?

Here's the update:  Rocky is in the bike here at the pit end.  He's going to try a two-way run starting at this end.  Scott Horner's team is ready to run when the course is clear.  Poteet and Main are now arriving at the far end to await their turn to make a N/A run.  That's the update.  Wind is all over the place -- but not too strong.

Nope -- Rocky isn't going to run now.  Back to you, Scott/Heads Up.

We'll look forward to seeing you Thursday, Dick.  Nancy and I will be here through Friday afternoon -- l;eaving in time to get to SLC by bedtime for an early AM flight to our house for a week or so - then back here.  Too bad -- we'll miss the lawnmower event.

Yesterday - remember the Spectre's run that Amir Rosenbaum had to abort?  Here's what started the chain of events.

The story goes:  For some reason the cable from the alternator overheated, which made a red light show on the dash.  Amir had just shifted into fifth -- saw the light.  Lifted and then put in the clutch, at which time the motor burped a few tablespoons of oil through the turbo.  He coasted for a short time thinking about whether he should pull the chute, keep coasting, pull the fire bottle switch.  Pulled the chute, and that ended the story.

Here's Nancy sitting with Elmo Rodge, enjoying the ambiance of the Top Speed Shootout 2010:

Finally for this post -- Scott Horner's bike (they didn't tell me if it's Scott or Jamie riding) has just left the pit.  They'll go to about the 2 mile and make a run.  Charlie and Drew Gatewood are standing by to "officiate" on the run.  I'll get you reports as they come in.

No word on when the Ack bike will run -- Mike Akatiff gave Scott the go-ahead to run the course right now.

This is fantastic, what a story! It feels a million miles away here in the UK, but at least you wonderful people are letting us all follow the saga. I thank you with all my heart. Regards, Gabriel.

Bike 968 is ready to run, Jamie Williams up.  Engine is running, bike is moving.

Aborted the run, turned around and going back to the starting point.

4 mph winds at the tower -- cross wind angling towards tail wind, .5 mph at the 7 1/2.

Going to tune on the bike for a few minutes.  Still in lockdown.

Re-starting the motor on the faired bike at about the two mile.  Nitreous solenoid is hanging up -- they'll work on it back here.

Poteet and Main are getting ready to start the prep for a run.   Might run in 20 - 30 minutes.

Update -- it's about 23 past 11 and George is getting into the car.

Car is running, course is clear.  The car is running on a Hoffman and Markley 231 record, under 5 L N/A.

Car is under way.  Off the push truck.  Moving out smartly.

Through the one mile and accelerating well.

By the three and coming fast, switched of just before the four.  Still moving -- aren't sure if the engine is on or not.

Through the five.  208 mph

Driver reports something popped in the car, will try to coast to the pits.  Deployed chute at the four mile, fire and ambulance are paralleling the car, push truck is following.

Car is moving about 20 mph less than a half-mile from the pits.  May have to be pushed into the pit.

Timing tower heard the "pop" when the car was near the tower -- course sweep is looking at the track to see if there are parts on the course.

Drive line/u-joint failure on the Speed Demon.

Ack attack is about ready to run.

Okey-dokey, here we go again.  Rocky is getting belted into the bike.  Course is locked down.  Course is clear.

Ack Attack engines running.  Canopy is going down as I type.

Canopy open -- engines off.

Engines on again, canopy closed, ready to move out, on the push truck.

Skids up, under way, accelerating hard, just like it oughta be doing.  Boy -- course sounds rough.  Hearing the engines revving over the bumps.

At the one mile.

AT the two mile, looking good, says Lynda.

Through the three mile.  2.7 mph wind at the four mile.

Through the four, entering the measured mile/kilo.

Entry speed:   287   by the seven mile.

Chute out just after the eight mile, slowing and looking good.

Speeds to follow.

Ran a total of just under 300, says the tower.  No decision yet if they'll try to sdervice and try again from that end.  The speed is not a qualifier - but they might elect to do just like they did earlier here.

Sounds like nobody will run for a while -- I'll get you a for-shore in just a minute.  Then -- we'll go on break for lunch.  I'll get some time away from here.  C U ina while.
