The wind is dying down - surprisingly.  Maybe Rocky can get in a run soon.

So -- what are the chances that the Speed Demon (or any car, for that matter) would toss a turbo wheel out the exhaust two runs in a row?  They found the second one, too -- just like the first one.

Wind is at zero at the tower.  We're waiting for the Team and for Charlie FIM to give us the word that they're ready.

Nancy and I moseye3d over to Scott Horner/Heads Up Performance pit a little while ago.  He's got a pair of blown 1650-class 'Busas here.  One has body on it -- for Jamie Wagner to get some runs, the other is naked now for Scott to run to bump his Bub FIM record.  Then he'll put the body on and get some speeds.

Going to lockdown for the Ack Attack bike run.

Rocky is in the bike.  Winds are under 2 mph everywhere on the course -- zero at the tower and zero at the pits, 1.7 at the 3 1/2 is fastest anyplace on the course.

Wow, 45 years for that record to fall. Congratulations the the entire Spirit of Rett team, that was HUGE!

I'm a little bit curious, has the Spirit of Rett been going after the Summers Brothers record for awhile like the Nish team has, or is this their first shot at it?

Looks like Nish has their work cut out to get the Spirit of Rett record now. Good luck guys!

Spirit of Rett is about two or three years old -- under the ownership of Charles Nearburg, that is.  He's been working his way to this goal since he got the car.

The Ack bike is gunning for the 367 record of Bub #7.  The two bikes have traded the record back and forth a few times in the past couple of years.

Rocky is belted into the bike, course is clear.  Engines are running, bike not moving yet.

Bike is moving out on the push truck.  Wheels are up, bike is on the course.  Accelerating hard.

Hauling the mail, Cook says.  Out of sight from the 12 mile.  By the two, coming fast.

Through the three, into the four, past the four, into the measured stretch:

Through the five mile   292 mph.   exit speed 307

Slowing, chute deployed at the three, hold the course in case they turn him around after a quick 'chute pack, try again.

Rocky reports the bike wanted to heel over to the right -- even though there was no wind.  He also says "it wants to run!".  Mike Akatiff and crew are thinking on how to tweak the aero now to correct for the little tilt.  Rocky had to get out of the throttle and back into it to keep it on the middle of the tire.

There was some smoke coming out from the tail section when the bike shut down here in the pits -- it's been decided it was just the heat wrap smoking.

They're going to think about it -- and maybe try to turn the bike around and make a run up the course in less than a half-hour.  The wind is still zero.  I've got photos -- will put 'em here after I click to let you folks read this.

We've been at the wonderful celebration at the Nearburg pit.  Best of all -- Bill Summers CALLED and spoke with Charles.  What a great piece of history we've seen.  I took photos -- will get 'em here in a minute or two.  Nothing else going on right now -- still working on the Ack bike.  Back with pictures in a minnit.

Charles Nearburg, new holder of the Summers Brothers N/A record from 1965:

Nearburg and Lee Ryan, his crew chief:

Talking with Bill Summers:

Spirit of Rett Crew shots:

Charles Nearburg, holder of the record that Mike Nish is chasing, shaking hands with Mike:

A wistful Mike Nish:

Nearburg and the Loctite on-site honcho:

And that's it for right now.  Still waiting for the Ack Attack team to let us know what they're doing.  Oh, yeah -- when asked about what's next for the 1122 team -- Charles reports it's time for steak and champagne -- further thoughts on the car come later, after the celebration.

You folks out there in internet land -- sorry you weren't here in person.  I hope you were able to share some of the excitement we all felt today.

What Charles Nearburg has proven that nothing lasts forever. The whole group is to be commended for continuing in their effort with others not far behind. It's too bad the Summers Brothers car never reached its potential but that was a different time and era in Land Speed Racing.

Great coverage.....Thanks to all contributing...................JD
