Dear Prospective Entrant,

This letter is being sent to the entire mailing list in the hope it will be forwarded to all prospective entrants. If you're fully entered, please be so kind as to simply forward this e-mail to any one you know who may be contemplating entering.

Thank you for your interest in the First Annual U.S. Motor-Scooter Land-Speed Trials, and for initiating the application process.

In order to clear up any possible confusion or misunderstanding regarding "Pre-Entry" status, it is imperative that I inform you that the only way to enter this event is completion of all parts of the on-line entry application and payment of an entry fee for each scooter you are entering. Perhaps more importantly, entries close at midnight on October 22nd, after which we will not be accepting any additional entries. This date has been selected as the cut-off date for both practical and administrative reasons. This letter is not intended to give you the "bums rush", but merely to inform you of the procedure that was set in place from the inception of this event.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

Sincerely,

Alan Spears,
Scootermeister

Thanks for the link! The Mustang caused the 15" wheel rule to come into play first in AMA racing, then SCTA comp. Pretty sad the big bike mfg were so afraid of it and that this discriminating rule helped destroy a fledgling company and a really neat bike.
MFFM!

It appears to be a very old pix. No Snell full-coverage helmet! No leathers. Just a cork half-pot -- possibly an Everoak, long sleeve T-Shirt, and Levis! And he lived! OMG!

My being precluded from entering my Kymco S9 Malossi in SCTA because of its 15" minimum wheel size Rule, and having to compete against motorcycles in AMA/BUB, is the sole reason for the creation of MSILSF. This endeavor has cost me a lot of dough, and please let me say unequivocally: we're here to stay!

rifleman
this has my curiosity peaked.... when did the AMA ban 15"tires? and when and why did the SCTA follow suite?
Mustang produced motorcycle from 1945 to about 1972 hardly what you would call a fledgling company... wasn't it the lack of Burma trans and other parts that took the company out?

One Salsbury, Entry #133, and one Mustang Replica, Entry #142.  :-)

What does SCTA do for Plan "B" when it rains?

Plan B is usually cancel.   Do scooters float?  If they do there might be a plan C.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

I guess this is why we have a realtor looking for a level strip of land in Imperial County? In any event, with racers planning on traveling from Florida, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico, Arizona, and Northern California I must develop and implement contingency plans. My dad used to tell me: "No one likes a quitter."
