Classification Question XXO/BVGalt
« on: July 12, 2010, 08:45:10 AM »
I've searched, but cannot find the record for XXO/BVGalt. I have a '38 Lasalle coupe, with a blown Cadillac flathead. It appears that this would be the classification I would run in.

XXO/BGCC also looks like a possibility. Would I be prevented in running in this class, because I'm pre 1948, or could I still run XXO/BGCC?

Thank you in advance!

It appears that there is no record for that class at Bonneville.  The El Mirage record looks like:

XXO   BMR Racing   J. Darien   11/93   184.117

The class is considered as open because there is no listed record. To set the record you will have to make two consecutive runs to get the average. This is assuming that your car meets all the tech requirements of the class.

There is a note at the top of page 83 that indicates what happens if there is no record listed. You may want to read sections 1.F and 1.G in order to get an idea of how to set a record.

Not to discourage you but first of all your '38 La Salle will need to be a RACE CAR. Make sure you read all the rules not only for the "class" you will be running but also the "catagory" the class fits in. If it is a street legal normal car right now you may be looking at $5K to make it SCTA legal for almost any class. IE: roll cage, door net, racing seat, possibly remove interior?, tires, wheels, fire suit, fire system + more

You may want to print out an inspection form, found with a little searching in the SCTA-BNI website. It will show everything which will be checked off during inspection. In the coupe classes you need to do some of what ever is needed to meet the body rules to run the class so under standing the book is important.

Good Luck we are always glad to see someome bring out the vintage iron................JD

Thanks guys!

I started the build as a hotrod, then decided I wanted to go to Bonneville. The car will be a full on race car, built to pass tech. It has/will have a blown Cadillac flathead mill. All the time and money that was to be spent making a hotrod, will now be directed towards a salt flat car.

I just have a lot of questions, because I've never been to the salt before!

Thank you! The build direction overall is going to change now, but the engine will still be about the same.

Thanks Jeff! I jump on a plane in the morning to fly to work, but I'll call you tomorrow night or Thursday.

Thanks again for the welcome.

And I had the class wrong- it will be XXO/BVG, unless I can swing XXO/BGCC. Gotta get reading the rules!

Casn I suggest you look up bill Ross' 38 ford coupe when you go to b'ville this year.

not only is it a bitchin car, its legal, and I'm sure Bill will let you take a bunch of pictures of it to use as referrence for when you convert your own car to a racecar
Its hard enough to be your age, let alone act it.
