Thanks guys for the compliments....can always use the encouragement. I've been talking with the USFRA about the 130 club and we seem to have come to the agreement that I can run the class, but as far being awarded the 130 status....that will be decided after a more official inspection of my truck. In other words its to early in the build stage to tell. I'm completely fine with that. I want to have fun, learn the track, learn the truck and get my "awards" with full endorsment of my peers.

I have a Tailgate Truck show at my ranch every year for the club I belong to. The "Dodge Pilot-House Era Truck Club of America". Here's a video of the 2009 event. It'll give y'all an idea what my truck looks like minus the roll bars, etc.

Great video, great song, neat trucks!

I have a friend with a '40 Dodge.  Still has the 218 flathead in it, with all the speed equipment available for it.  S-10 5-speed, and an 8 3/4" rear end.  He's put over 40k miles on it, for coast to coast.  We have even used it as a tow vehicle for our fuel car.

Another friend found me a '53 Dodge and also about that year of Dodge Delivery.  Very neat trucks!  I wish I had the time, space, and coin to redo them!

Gear selection for the T-bird IRS and the Mark 8 is the same as Mustang 8.8 rear.

Hey Tim;

It all depends on what you want to do, to me building the car, truck, luge, bar stool, or what ever and then seeing how fast it will go safely, is what its all about.  I believe that the 150 club would be a better choice for you, cause you get a longer run up for the weight of the truck.  But you would probably be allowed to run the 130 club for time only if you pass the 130 tech.  If you want to be in the 130 club you need to have it street legal, but you can still run and get a time slip for the quarter, half, and mile time for your own personal satisfaction. The whole purpose of the 130 / 150 clubs is to get racers interested in building land speed cars to race in open competition.  The 130 isn't as easy as it sounds, but I have never seen any one not enjoy making it or trying to make it.  The 150 is a perfect introduction for open competition.  I run in the B/CGALT, there is no way I will ever have the aero's to break the record, or the money for 1000 HP, but I built the car, and if I can get it over 200 MPH I will be personally satisfied.

You two don't seem to offer any help, but you are quick to judge.  I might be a Newbie on this sight, but I am not a newbie to land speed racing.  I use to think that LSR racers were the friendliest people on earth.

Take a chill pill steve, that weren't trying to harass you they were simply saying that once you get hooked eventually you sink more time and money trying to acheive a certain goal.   :roll:

WOW, I try really hard not to be offensive. I was speaking from personal experience. I started out thirty two years ago, wanted to run 150, ran 88. :cry: It took me thirty years to get  back as a competitor, lots of spectating. Two years ago I came back with a bike wanting to run 200mph, didnt make it. Decided I had to have a record and a Red Hat. Got five records and a Red Hat. This year I am after more records and to go faster.
     So Steve, what I am saying, when we achieve a goal it is just natural to set a new goal. Good luck in your quest for speed.

Sorry;

Now that I look back and take a chill pill, it could of been my sssskkkiitsofrenia.  I got the salt bug in 72 when I was helping my dad on a remodel at the State Line Casino.  Tossed a few beers with some guys with an old studebaker and a rat rod.  They took us to the track the next day, and boy was it fun, was especially amazed at the bycicles going 130 MPH.
I was trying to help Tim, as I have helped many by loaning them CB's, metal valve caps, Jon & Nancys Leathers and helmets, and try to give good advice.

Passion. That's what I call it. I don't care how fast or how well it runs, just as long as I'm in the driver's seat. lol. Reading the post by you guys is awesome cuz it means I don't have to "explain" why I do the things I do....

    The plan is to get it registered and run the 130 rules. The feedback I get from the USFRA is that my truck should be fine. Next year will be the 150 club or SCTA's B/PP...still a bunch to learn. As I get more pictures, I'll share'em here. Thanks for the continued input, its been very helpful.

The head of WOS tech is building an early fifties International with a Pontiac engine so I'm sure you will have a great time at tech, his name is Chuck.
