Ah, Mr. Smarty-pants, if you only knew. . .  Last year the Aussies and Kiwis related that there was a band from their end of the world that'd be kicking off an American tour -- around the time that Speedweek started.  So - would Nancy and I mind if they played a first gig at Salt Talks?  Can't remember the name of the band -- Wild Turkey, or maybe something like that.  But it was a great addition to Salt Talks, for sure, for sure.  They took a break so I could use their sound system as a PA for the raffle part of the evening, and provided music long after we left the Bend in the Road for the evening.

But since I don't remember who it was that started the subject, nor the name of the band -- I was hoping that whomever would get in touch so I could find out if they'll be in the neighborhood once more.

See?  Not quite so simple. . .and plenty difficult for someone as cornfusing as me.

OK, mr sss . . .

Here's what happens.  I see something and think - "should send that boy some pesos" . . .

then I forget, or go looking for the address and see something else pretty and then forget.  or can't find the address.  or look for the address, can't find it and then lose interest.

So, if you make it easy ( POST THE ADDRESS), you might get a better response.

Or not, this bottle will be empty soon.

Just a thought . . . .

Okay, boys and girls -- here's the first definitive statement about the name tags.  Please read and act accordingly -- like ordering a batch for you and your crew.

We'll be making name tags with an outline of the mountains behind the Salt Flats in the background.  The tags will be 1" tall by 3" wide -- and will have easy-to-read colors (con't know yet, but I like white that engraves red).  We'll have enough room to put name and team, perhaps "Forum" name as well as real name and team -- depends on how big those are.  We can engrave any amount on the tag, but don't want to be sending out magnifying lenses to all.

The tags will be $5.00 each, payable in advance, and will be available for pickup at our pit and also at Salt Talks.  We must have the order in hand by about the 20th of July.  Payment can be by check, money order, or Paypal (hell, send cash if you're brave).  Payment must, I say again, be made before we'll start engraving your tag.

These can be worn at any time, of course -- not just at Salt Talks.  But I've been to too many Salt Talks' where I didn't remember the name of the person to whom I was speaking at the time -- so these should help reduce that embarrassing situation's frequency.

Let's hear from you soon!

You mean that your mind-reading machine has broken down?  What's the matter with it -- maybe we can help.  Hold it up to the camera built into the computer and let us all see it.

Okay:  Mail your tag requests to me at:

By the also way, Charles (a/k/a Cajun Kid) thinks I ought to make the tags bigger -- maybe 4" wide by 2" tall.  It'd be far easier for us if you folks choose one size only -- so let's hear what you say and we'll post the results.

Thanks.

I just think a 1 x 3  is very small,,,  1  inch tall with a mountain shape leaves very little room for text.

With the many conventions and meetings I attend,, I think a larger size would be better.

Type set a 1 x 3 and a 2x 4 and you will see what I mean.

Your call,,, just my 2 cents.

2 x 4 will probably look small on Charles, but huge on Deb....

Of course if you have 20 cars to put on it you will need lots of room.

I vote small I'm nearsighted and will need to get real close to read Nancy's tag

or  Maybe 1.5 X 3.5

Make a sample and show it here.... and they will come

I guess if we use paypal we can just use the donate to the site button... and send a little extra...  :-D

Stainless,

1.50 x 3.50  in my opinion is the smallest workable size.  option 1

1.75 x 3.50    option 2

2.00 x 4.00    option 3

Jon,  can you post your design with sample text, both 2 lines of text and 3 lines of text in each size ?

If so, I am sure the orders will fly in,,,

Thanks

Charles, from my thinking -- what you want is a license plate, not a name tag :-D.  Well -- whatever.  I'll get the art worked up and put some wording on a sample or two -- and post that.  Gimme a few days -- still finishing a bunch of current jobs at the laser shop.  But get 'em posted I will -- sooner or later.  Thanks to all for your early interest.

Name tag used by local Ham radio operators to identify themselves by call sign is 1 3/4 by 3 1/4 with only 3 lines of text.
The call sign on top, in type 1/2 inch tall, the Name below in type 1/4 inch tall, and the city below that in type about 3/16 tall.

It is about as small as you want to go. It has a dark green background and white letters (like a highway sign) and could be a little larger for better readability at more than 2 arms length distance.

Remember in many cases you want the viewer to be able to make out and recognize the persons id at 15 -20 ft.

I would vote bigger at least 2 x 3 with the web forum handle the largest (since many of us only know each other by web handle), and then we can get the name and team/car number as we get closer.

The Bonneville Speed Week press pass last year was 3 1/2 by 5, with largest lettering 3/8 inch tall, for an upper size comparison.

Here is a very rough sketch  approx total height is 2 inches and width is 4 inches... the text could be bigger.. I just don't know how to do much more than basic rough drafts,,,,

Just did a  1 3/4 x 3.5  looks like a good size,, not to big, not to small.

No WISE CRACKS  on my mountain range,, I am a car guy, not an artist...

3 lines fit.

Top is real name
Middle is all caps of screen name from forum
Bottom is optional text (if you do not use third line,, lines one and two can have even larger text

CheeZe, you guys aren't afraid to ask for the sky, are you?  Okay -- I can make the tags in any size up to 12x24 -- but that'd be a bit bulky and hard to wear, so let's stop at 2" x 4".  I won't have to charge any more for that size - but might if you go any bigger.  At some point soon the amount of stock we use will get to be a big thing.

Anyway -- okay, 2" tall by 4" wide.  They'll be rectangular (rather than have the mountain outline as the top side).  I think white, with red lettering, will be best - for visibility on the white of the salt and during the evening hours of Salt Talks, too.  If we make 'em the 2 x 4 size we'll have well more than an inch for the lettering -- oughta be plenty of room for a couple of lines of text - probably three, so we can get real name, given name, and team name -- or whatever else you think is important.

They'll be laser-etched, versus the rotary engraving style that used to be used when I bought ham radio name tags a hundred years ago.  I'm WA8GDW, by the way, and know whereof I speak.  The laser engraving is just as permanent as the rotary kind, so don't worry that they'll face or wear out or something bad like that.

Okay?  Send your orders and payment to me at the above-listed address, please.  But lots of them - part of the proceeds will be used to help pay for the upkeep of landracing.com.

TTFN.

Any good carpenter will tell you that a common 2x4 is actually 1 5/8 x 3 5/8 in dimension, so put that in your pipe and smoke it (where the hell did I put those oreo's)? .......
