Simpson has a drag race helmet with a race cut, as is the back is cut higher so it will clear fat necks and the eye port is raised up so you can see in a tuck.... they dont advertise it you have to request the race cut when you order it.... the helmet sucks as far as noise and draft but hey its a race only deal...

Beginning Jan 1, 2011 a Snell 2005 certification is needed for car or motorcycle  For enclosed cockpit cars or streamliner motorcycles you will need a SA2005, for other bikes a M2005 seems OK.

The helmet must have a manufacture date not to exceed 5 years back.

Since that is the new rule, I would not even consider a Snell 2000 (even though is Ok thru end Of 2010) go ahead and get a Sell 2005.

When I raced bikes I wore  Aria, Shoei, or Bell...

Maybe some of the go fast bike riders can tell you what brand and model helmet they wear ?

Thanks for the replies. Can you guys post links of the helmets you prefer, or that you are talking about?

I wear an Arai. They have various shell shapes to fit different head shapes. The best thing to do is find an Arai dealer and have them show you options and fit you properly. Check the balance and weight of different helmets to each other also.

Will this helmet be ok?

Not for a motorcycle it wont. You need a M2005 cert not SA2005.

larry is right M for motorcycle    SA for cars and motorcycle streamliners.  a M 2000 will be good until 12-31-2010 by then you can buy a M 2010 which will be good for 10 years . if you buy a M 2005 it will only be good for 5 years               willie buchta

I would recommend going into a Race supply shop and test fit a helmet. Each manufacturer has different sizes and cheek pads. Taping your head doesn't always work. Get one for a hans mounts all ready installed. That way you do not have to tear one apart to drill and add your own. Better to be safe. All manufactures have to meet the same minimal standards so the looks and price are up to you.

The test fit is important. For the same nominal sizes, Bell helmets are way to tight on me- Simpson and Impact fit me better.
