Hey guys I'm just lookin for an edge. At first I thought I might get a sidecar from willie. Dang he does awesome work. But I ended up deciding it was going to be too much for my wallet. But I don't want to give up. I want to have fun with great people, many of whom I have read about and idolized since I was a kid. And I am old now. 62. So I am going to race what I have. Not a busa or a zx14. Not my Vette. I am going to make it go as fast as I can afford and use my years of building HP street motors, porting heads and using Johns pistons when they were still his pistons. I may never go faster than 150 or 160 but it is going to be a total blast doing it. All you guys and ladies have done things that people said you can't do. I don't know where i will end up but I am looking forward to seeing you guys and hopefully racing with you.

Bob,

Bonneville is all about participating in the event itself.
Come out and have fun, set a goal and achieve it.

I hate to tell you this Bob but 62 isn't old.  At least not by SCTA standards.  And yes you will meet great people.  At my first El Mirage I about fell off my bike at the line.  As I pulled up who staged me but Bob Higbee!!  I had seen him in HRM starting the great and not so great at Bonneville and El Mirage for as long as I could remember.   It may sound stupid but for me it was a big thrill.  Com'on out you'll have a great time.  Don't worry about records.  It only took me ten years to get my first.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

Bob, the USFRA has done a good thing for us older and low budget guys with their 130 and 150 clubs.  Type "130 club" into a search engine.  You might like what you see.

Bob, watch it when you imply that 62-year-old guys are aged.  I've just turned 62 -- still plan on riding the nitrous ZX12R this summer to see if I can bump the fuel record a bit.  Will ride the bike naked next weekend at Maxton.

And if you think I'm old -- go tell Nick Nicholaedes (spelled that way?) that he shouldn't have just got married and shouldn't be riding that turbo 'Busa.  He's about 20 years older than you or me.

I could go on -- but 62 is just a td above the MEDIAN age of land speed racers.  Welcome, youngster.

Boy.  This thread pretty well shattered MY world.

All this talk about 62 being old, and here I am knockin' on 72, the next time I run at the Mike Cook Shootout.  You guys seem to have the opinion that 65 year old V Twin motors, with a 72 year old builder, who has no money, ain't the way to go.

And you're sayin' that off the shelf Busa power is the only way to get the job done?

Bonneville is the last bastion of all racing that allows the hot rodder in his back yard garage to challenge the "Big Boys".

Ole Yellar..

You are missing a huge part..
 RIDING to Boneeville

BEING THERE AT BONNEVILLE ..  racing or not

 RIDING back from Bonneville..

its been my observation, that things may go smoother if you go and watch the first time, then come better prepared to run the next time..

in fact, you can make several meets in one year..

There's lots of classes out there that Busas can't compete in. Fact is if my math is right it would be 109 and if you could build a motor bigger than 2000cc 8 more that a Busa would qualify for.
