With a previous HI of 52 today and ao 0930 PDT it is 46deg and wind gust to 30mph at the airport ,it would seem the racing is over for this year.

Oh well, bad news but we can't say it was unexpected.

Let me be the first to thank all the BNI volunteers who tried as best they could since speedweek to get this meet up and going with good salt.

For those needing Nevada "speed":

"In October of 2005 racers will gather on SR305 outside of Battle Mountain, Nevada to race on one of the straightest, flattest, and smoothest surfaces in the world. The 4,619ft (1,408m) altitude road allows riders an acceleration zone of over 4 miles, enabling them  to reach their maximum velocity."

http://wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/whpsc2005/speedchallenge-2005.htm

Runs aree made between 5 & 7 pm after the winds die down and thr road is closed for the record runs.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.  But in practice, there is.--Jan L. A. Van de Snepscheut

These guys do know something about streamlining however.  Makes a lot of difference when the power is comming from you 'personally' vs a tank of fuel.  Gives you a kind of 'personal interest' in the slipperyness (?) of your vehicle.  True, they are not hitting the kinds of speeds we deal with, but they are relentless in their efforts to reduce drag.

Thanks,
Jim.

Yeh those guys have there own ideas about things and not afraid to try them. I did a lot of HPV, Luge, and downhill skateboard stuff in the early 80's. Never again, those guys are weird I pass whenever an hpv project comes callin'.
