Salt Condition for WF

I have had word that the Bar-1 car has cancelled due to wet salt.

Keep tuned for updates for World Finals, I beleive there will be a rep out on the salt Sunday so until then it's up in the air on what will happen.

Lotsa Rain in Wndover!
« Reply #1 on: September 28, 2005, 09:13:11 AM »
I took a look at last week's weather data for Wendover -- do I see this correctly -- that they got a little more than 10 inches of rain between 5.35 and 5.55 pm on Friday the 23rd?  Wow!   That's gonna be hard to get rid of in time for WF. . .

I look forward to the course condition updates later this week.

I am afraid the pattern for the whole year is rough on racing schedules. I have run as early as March and as late as mid November. There 2 locations to get more information. 1 is the airport facility and the other is a Fed installation way out on the salt. The best for sure is a walkabout but a flyover works well also and beats the drive way out there.
After JW left with the Nicon commercial, we ran on the salt with snow in town in actuallt very good conditions, just very cold. 8)

I see on the 27th that Wendover got .10 inch.  I didn't look last Friday.  We get some real cloud bursts out here, but I've never seen 10 inches in 20 minutes   .

I have seen it rain hard enough in Wendover to push 6 inch rocks down the middle of the street. 8)

I have been watching the 10 day forecasts since WOS was cancelled and all have been favorable with a couple of stray T-storms possible.I looked at the archived rain records as far back as the 20th and saw no rain recorded.Gonna go back out and do another no-rain dance.I have been packed and ready since early sept.
And bite your tongue,Jon.Don't want to jinx us all.

I just talked to my roomate Arch who is on the salt right now. He is there with BUB for some testing on the #7 Streamliner. They are canceling the testing and comming home. According to Arch "it's a lake". I will update more when I talk to Arch again.

Come on FIremanjim you aren't getting superstitous are you. You better find a different thought process, and dance your heart out.

Mother nature did what it did. no reason, just rained there is a scientific reason for it all.

Kinda like my bike, it didn't blow because of "Salt Gods", it blew because I was an idiot......

I want to go as bad as anybody, it just sucks the weather we got. Maybe its just a process for good salt next year....

It must be pretty bad for Denis not even to test his liner. He was starting from scratch again and desperate for some runs to shake down the new turbo system he put on. Remember he didn't even get to run it at his own meet.

This will be my first vacation in 7 years, and my first trip to the salt. If you happen to notice someone out there in knee deep water screaming jibberish at the sky... that would be me
Oh well, I'm going anyway. I can always sit in a casino for a week.

Native language?

I wondered what the native language of Oregon was.
It's a good thing you are not going during hunting season because the "Guest Ranches" in Nevada are filled.
We did a race during Deer Hunters Widow's Weekend and one of the racers came back with his next ex wife. 8)

Take a look -- if you haven't already done so -- at the SCTA-BNI home page.  There's an update from yesterday (28 September) -- Larry Volk was out there.

(Doesn't look good from what I read, but read it yourself -- and stay tuned for this weekend's next report).

A well respected  individual with some of the most salt knowledge was out on the salt Tuesday and reportes that there is water across a vast area of the salt including part of the "east course high ground." This area was reported to have been where the courses were projected to be.

There has been rainfall there earlier in the week.

This same individual will be going out Sunday for another visit.

The fate of World Finals will be in the BNI's hands on Friday where decisions might me made.

I will keep you updated on Landracing.com when I hear about the news.

I figured that water will be a problem after I had reports from several days ago about Mannings crew leaving due to water on the salt and hearing about the Bar-1 car cancelling their attempt that was scheduled October 5th.
