Ignition system recommendation for Methanol?
« on: September 15, 2009, 09:45:19 PM »
I'm just looking for ideas here, any input is appreciated....

Engine will be a Kawasaki motorcycle, 74mm x 58mm, turbocharged, low to mid 30's for maximum boost, fuel is Methanol...

Would a MSD box with good coils be adequate?

What about spark plug heat range, gap, etc?

Or any car guys running Methanol, tell me about your setup, I'm interested in any and all information.

used MSD box on turbo Kawi running alcohol ... used VW distributor with an angle drive ... no problems igniting the mixture ... it was on a drag bike ... ran 160's in the quarter all day long ...

Dyna Ignition, for sure.

Couple of questions.  Blow through or draw?  Injected or carb? Slipper or lockup clutch? Any type of timing controller?

Let me know and maybe I can get close the the right plug range.

Twin, Dean! :-D

500cc EX500 engine, I just bought a new crank, transmission, etc out of a wrecked bike with 80 miles on it, studs for the top and bottom end of the motor, converted to a ZX6 charging system so that I have enough current to run all of the electrical stuff,  636 Kaw swingarm, and a bunch of other stuff...

It's most likely going to get my old TZ250 based fairing from my RZ racing days, plus a few more aero parts.

It should have a relatively small frontal area, make pretty decent power, and maybe go fast, we'll see about that!!

.... and the 500 is literally almost a 1000 cc motor cut in half, same pistons, rods, crank dimensions, same valve sizes, the parts all look pretty stout....
