From the drivers meeting:

There's no caterer...we're on our own for food.

Only one course.  A long course car will run; when it passes the 5 mile mark, a short course car will run.  I bleeve there's a separate course for the 130 Club cars.

Salt is slightly damp on course.  I expect this to dry as the week progresses.

The meet will NOT run over to Sunday.  There are no hotel/motel rooms for the USFRA staff.  Apparently a poker tournament has yet again messed with things.

Yes, the Blowfish is here.  I don't have a photo yet.

I think that covers the high points.

Mid-day update (more or less)

The 130 course is running.  There are some problems with the timing equipment on the long/short course.  Blowfish is first in line to run.

I can't remember if I wrote about this, but I had to get a new battery for the Burb this morning.  I'd planned to do it today, but I hadn't planned on having to get a jump start before heading for the parts store.  The inverter for the laptop/etc. needs more than the old one could provide.

Photos:  Blowfish, sittin and waitin.

School buses fulla high school kidson a field trip (a really kool thing) which made the third photo one of the most popular attractions in the pits.

Thanks for that, Ray.  We're at the line now.  Blowfish does 261 in the quarter, 271 in the first mile, 290.022 middle mile, last mile 229.97,  150 exit.  Musta shut off in the last miole, hey?

There -- now I'vemade my first post during the event.  I don't promise to give you run by run -- but we happened to be in the right place for this one.

Nancy will probably not run 'til later today, so I'll do some reorting now for sure.  There's a long line for the race course right now -- looks like three or four hours long, so we might not even try.  Time will tell.

The race event dates are a bit modified -- once more.  Now it's going to end this Saturday at the end of the day -- no running Sunday.  Reason?  There's a poker tournament in town this weekend and there aren't any spare m,otel rooms for the folks that might have to extend their stay.  So nothing on Sunday,. but qualifying all day Saturday and return runs as necessary before the meet ends that evening.  Also -- instead of closing staging at 5 each afternoon -- we'll have the staging lines open until 5.30 and run as many through after that as the light will allow.  So while maybe not quite as long as before the weather interruption -- still pretty good considering how much water was on the course three days ago.

That's it for now. . . gotta go post about the Shootout (which is definitely planned to happen this coming week -- no delay).

Long/short course check has just been completed.

Runs have begun.  Blowfish was the first long course car.  Of course I had no memory card in the camera when I went to shoot it at the start line.  Duh.

I'll post one photo here of Bob Brissette's lakester which spread Barry Bryant's ashes at the 5 mile mark.  Godspeed, Barry.

A few more photos from the starting line.  (I don't have names/speeds, cuz I'm sorta on my own here...SSS is preppin the bike for Nancy and is a bit occupied.)

The Salt Cat Racing Buick Straight-8 powered Jag.

The Creel and Buck cope with (I think) Sam Buck driving.

The #50 Freudiger roadster.

An unknown rider/Triumph PS bike.

That's it for now...I'm going over to the 130 club course via the staging lanes.

Hey, Ray -- I'm here -- not taking a nooner break.

John Stege -- the fellow that runs a kneeler-type sidecar outfit with a N/A 'Busa engine - just ran a 213 in the last mile -- on his own 208 record from last year.  216 exit speed.  His first year was two years ago -- got a 199 record.  Last year into the club, this year -- bumped it again.  Good job, John.

The course is pretty wet out there.  We're watching carefully -- darned near everyone is kicking up some hellacious spray by the time they're at the 3 1/2 or so.  Nancy won't likely run 'til tomorrow -- unless it gets quite dry and breezy this afternoon.

Jon Amo is in ine, I think -- said he was going to make a two-mile tuneup run.

Interesting news -- both the Buckeye Bullet and the Mormon Meteor are here to run this event -- for test and tune time.  We'll get a head-start, maybe, on how they'll run at the Shootout next week.

The good news for the spectators (and racers, too, I guess) is that Ron Christensen is back at the radio 1610 announce booth.  He's the fellow that was born in Wendover and knows lots of racing history -- and peppers his commentary with not only that stuff, but also lets us hear the existing records when a vehicle is starting.

Next -- a P-38 drop tank, driven by Dave Lefevre -- car 274, I think he said -- runs 198 in the 1/4, pulls the chute.

Glad yer here, SSS.  I heard that the 130 course is on hold for re-dragging.  Supposedly pretty rough and someone had an interesting spin.  So here are a coupla photos from the staging lanes without comment.

Time for a bite of lunch...speaking of that, SSS, I got yer tomatoes in my cooler.  Don't let me forget 'em.

Spud Carver on a 1350 Harley just ran 06 and change on a 167 NHRS record.  Take that for what you will.

I'm not going to try to put up continous posts yet -- the course is funky enough that we're not having many of the high-speed vehicles run.  I think maybe I'll mosey down to the start line.  I'll have the 'puter with me and let you know if something great happens.
