What do I have?
« on: July 24, 2005, 10:51:22 PM »
I came across a wing tank that I thought came off a P-38. After closer inspection it looks like one but is smaller. It is only 29" in diameter, and 10' 5" long, it also is steel not aluminum. The seam is turned 90 degrees to the seam of a P-38. Anyone know what I have found? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Tom

It looks like a 10 and 1/2 foot rusty drop tank.

During the great war (WWII) there were both the 300 and 150 gallon drop tanks. P-38s usually carried the 300  and I think that P51s carried the 150. I have see some cars made from the 150, makes them real compact. Looks like you have the 150.

Glenn, I have done a google search and can't find a tank like this one. Thanks.

Rex, thanks for the information. While searching google, I have found out there were several different size tanks made during WWII. I just haven't found this one yet. Thanks.

Regards, Tom
