Parachute washing

Any recomendations on how to wash a Diest parachute after Bville?

Wash it by hand in fresh clean water and let it dry out of the sun, make sure that the chute tube(s) are clean and dry as well.  Some people pack the chutes in a light layer of baby powder.

Do not let the chutes dangle after a run during an event and then show up at the next event and expect it will come out properly, the chute may get hung up inside and not blossom due to it being salt encrusted.

Check your mounting points as well as some cars that are pushed off the line have cut the attachment line and once the high speed chute is pulled it simply pops off and is useless.

Your mileage may vary.

Dave, I wash my chute after every run at Bonneville and after I come home from El Mirage. At Bonneville I carry enough water to "dunk/rinse" the chute in a 5 gallon bucket and hang it at out pit while we do our normal maintenance. Just before getting back in line we pack it. It has always been dry.

After El Mirage and after getting home from Bonneville I wash it in our washing machine after another rinse. I make sure all the lines are perfect and them tape them every 2 feet or use zip ties. After washing and drying I remove the tape or zip ties and repack it. I've never had a tangle problem doing it this way. Our cable is pretty short and I stand the chute end up verticle and let some Aero-Kroil run down into the cable. I always moves and releases with ease............Good Luck. I lay mine in the grass and hose it off with a garden hose for about 15 minutes. Let it dry in the sun and repack.

Not so good for the grass but gets the salt off.

Does anyone know how many years a chute should be used before replacing?

BTW:

anyone else notice the fake grass around all the casinos?
I thought it looked really good and never needs to be mowed.....hummmmm.

We just dusted it off at Bonneville. Hosed it off at home and threw it in the pool to soak. Drug it around in the pool and dried it in the shade. Laid it in a box loosely until next year.

We drain the intercooler tank after each run and dip the chute in it and hang it up on the shade to dry, sure makes it easier to pack.

I don't know for sure but the chlorine in the pool probably wouldn't do the chute any good.

WHAT POOL, Stan? - you've got a bird bath out front but otherwise you must be usin' the NEIGHBOR'S pool.

And you probably do other no-no's in it when you sneak in when they're not home.

Or, on second thought, no wonder the birds in yer neighborhood croak all the time. It's from Bonneville SALT!

I thought it was West Nile, all along.

if you dont pull it you dont have to wash it right. thats why alot of cars go to the 8 mile and then turn out.  :roll:
