Candid photos of the OSU driver.  The paper plate had a sugar cookie on it and the plate was inscribed:

"Congratulations, Roger.  If you can beat Ron Main you get an oatmeal cookie"

Chris Carr just walked past after taking some wind velocity readings.  A few minutes ago it was 6.8 - 7.5 quartering crosswind towards the freeway -- now it's a mile of two faster, same direction.  He said he'd be willing to make a run if the wind were straight headwind -- but the crosswind isn't what he wants.

I hear the Speed Demon crew is working to build a V-7 (out of the V-8 with a bad head).  They might be able to beat the 415 record on 7 cylinders if things are just right. . .

Cook is checking with the Bub crew.  If they won't run today -- we might be done for the evening.  I'll let you know, you betcha.

Is there a class for it in the 200 club?? in any assoc.

The first thing I would ask the 200MPH club is if they recognize FIA and FIM records. If so, then I see no reason for the person not to get the hat.

Tom G.

I'll never be in it  but I certainly agree.

The first sentence on their website on "How Do I Join The 200 MPH Club?" says, "The Bonneville 200 MPH Club is an organization that recognizes outstanding achievement in land speed racing and has no affiliation with any organization or sanctioning body."  There's more, of course...

I'd say that they met the "outstanding achievement in land speed racing" part.

FIM Charlie just visited and said the saltmobile (well, really a snowmobile) is classed as -- ready for this? --

Snowmobile, partially streamlined, 1000 cc, forced induction.

So show me where it has a class in SCTA,BNI, USFRA  or the Bonneville 200 club.

There are some honorary 200 members that are in the club. AJ FOYT for one. Your turn Gregory.

No, Willie, I know that the Bonneville 200 MPH Club recognizes records set at the Bub meet.

But let's take this discussion to a separate thread -- rather than spend too many pages here on the Shootout thread.  Thanks.

Had a bit of technical difficulties with the computer (air card/usb issues again..I hope the usb hub I just installed helps it out) and a bit of a language problem with some very happy and perhaps slightly tipsy Canadians.

Here's a shot of Jack Rogers Camaro as it passes thru the measured mile.  As you can see, the sun is sinking in the west and it's backlighting the cars from the rear on the down runs.

I'll try to get a couple of shots of the cars coming downcourse where the light looks like a headlight...I first noticed it on the Bullet....as promised:

We are familiar with FIM Group A1 Solo Motorcycles and Group B1 Motorcycles with permanent Sidecar.

How about Group E Snowmobile.
Snowmobile, partially streamlined, 1000 cc, forced induction.

The APS-BG 1000 200 club minimum is 230 mph. Should be the same here.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Willie you are totally wrong. 200 MPH club is their own organization and they any certified sanctioning body. SCTA- USFRA - FIA and FIM are ALL legitimate sanctioning bodies on the salt flats. Does NOT have to be at a USFRA or SCTA meet.  FIA and FIM count also. And they would not be honory members, they will be included into the club. Their website doesn't say it specifically for FIA and FIM but I know they recognize those organizations. But it has to be on the Bonneville Salt Flats to be a "member" and not a "Honorary Member"

Dunno.  200+ mph on a snowmobile seems pretty stellar to me.  I've seen one go 160+ at LVMS IIRC, and it looked pretty scary.  If not a Red Hat, he should get an Iron Jockstrap award.

Opps!  French!  Jacquestrap that is.

I have to admit (that I agree with Dean) that running 200 and change with a track wider than three motorcycle rear tires and has 4 wheels in the front with 600 claimed HP seems like a great accomplishment however not an outstanding achievement worthy of Red hat status.

I will end my comments regarding the hat issue for another thread.

Congrats to all of the racers, support members and race personnel involved.

I started a new thread for the 200 MPH subject. Someone might want to transfer these last posts to that thread.

Thanks,

Tom G.
