What an amazing sequence of images! Thank goodness no damage occurred.

Thanks, Gabriel.  Thank Jim Benning for the shots -- he said he was there to shoot the car leaving and realized that something wasn't right -- and hit the auto-shoot button.  Nice shots, hey?

So, Mr. Noonan -- I hope these are good enough for your needs.  They still had the transporter wheels attached, but there's no question that the repair didn't quite last.  It made it for one very important mile, though!

Now that I've looked at Jim's series I see that the repair, before the last run, is pretty visible in the shots.  There was some black tape used as well as shiny tape and sheet metal.  Look closely and you'll see.

PS:  Thanks for the kind words, Dan Warner.

Hi Jon,
It is making me realise just what a great time I had a BUB this year....
I thought my brother had salt fever bad, but in a moment of weakness I hereby declare I have it too!
I should be doing other things, but this is FAR more important!
I hope the wind dies so that BUB7 can run....
If the Mormon Missile beats the JCB record it may stir them into action, though financially it is hard for them currently to commit to another attempt...
I hope Mike Charlton stays safe with that machine...
Thanks Jim B for those wonderful photos! Plus of course Ray and Scooter! Cheers Jon.

The last I heard about the Bub bike was that Chris was in a car heading to the 11 mile to inspect a bad patch of the salt.  Sure hope they can make a run soon -- the wind is about one mph headwind dead straight down the course at them -- here in the pits.

I think I heard the Speed Demon run the 4 cyl. engine a while back -- must be they've got it in the car now.

Speaking of that car, Ron was saying the car weighs about 4200 pounds -- 70% on the rear wheels.  The Mormon Missile, he says, is 4700# -- no stats on front/rear bias.

No big need to tell you that -- just thought I'd share some of the details I'm hearing out here.

DJ Safety is working with darn near everyone's chutes today.  Now he's over at the pit for the #757 Camaro that's out here for chute testing.  The crew there just asked permission to move down to the 12 mile to make a run -- Cook said no, not 'til the car is inspected and okayed to make a run.  Remember, the car isn't here to work on a record -- just wants some salt time to check out chutes.

Ray,

Can you get a current picture of the area that Mike Cook was repairing on the MM ?

Please.. :-D

I'd be happy to, but since I'm at the 12 mile, the commute might be a bit difficult.  Maybe Jon can get a shot of that area.  Mike Sr. told me that the exhaust burned thru both layers of bodywork so he's asking them to extend the exhaust outlet a bit more so that by the time the air moves the exhaust stream back toward the body, it'll be a bit cooler.

Now we have proof of why Sam Wheeler feels it necessary to inject some water into the exhaust stream on the #999 bike.

Maybe a pilot could explain it but the barometer readings at airports is different [has something to do with pilots flying into changing weather I was told] the pressure out on the salt is probably in the 25 to 26 in area.

Just talked to Chris Carr.  The BUB team is getting into position in hopes that there's a calming trend moving from the 0 mile to the 12.  He asked me to say hi to everyone on the internet.  Might be a bit hard to do, but I can relay his greetings to everyone on this forum.

Bub wants another hour of waiting, so the officials are going to ask either the Camaro or Mike and the jet bike if they'd like to make some testing passes.  The Speed Demon is not ready to run, the Missile is fixing the damage and thinking about going after the JCB speed.  Different records -- the JCB is in an over-8 liter class, the Missile is in the 5-8 liter class (6.6 Duramax).  So the Missile might be able to exceed the speed -- just can't get the literal record.  Can get into JCB's pants, though. . .
