CB Radio Rule?

The rule books say the racers are required to have a CB Radio. Any specific kind? I have the FRS (family radio service) which are those walkie-talkie type of communication radios. They use sideband frequencies so only a matched set can receive each other.
Are those adequate, or do they mean some other radios?

The official communication takes place on CB channel 1 and you need to have a standard CB radio so you can find out what is going on. You can use your existing radios to communicate with your crew.

Hand held CB radios do not preform well, A mobile CB with a good antenna is the best. Cobra is a good one. About $ 120.00 for a good set up. It's real critical at Bonneville. The tower has to have the attention of everyone on the course. You need to know if your vehicle is in trouble, turned out early etc. You should have some one match the antenna SWR to your radio.

The real reason for the radio is for the timing tower can yell at your push truck/car/crew to get off the course and to SLOW DOWN when going to retrieve you race vehicle, especially near the pits and push down road. Glen and the crew just love to not give out times when you are speeding or not paying attention................
