It's a fun event. I just hope we have name tags that have our screen name and our real name so we can better relate to those with whom we communicate.

Can't wait.  We were supposed to attend our first one last year, but couldn't do to late arrival.  Freud great idea, although I'm sure some who hide behind their screen name may hide behind their real name at salt talks.

Let's see -- Freud sells 50/50 tickets, and Nancy's sons are tasked with "working the crowd" to steer 'em towards the food lines and the contributions cannisters, and Cathy and Ellen operate the grills, and Nancy and I "socialise", so we'll need someone to attend to the name tags.  No goofing off, either -- that person will need to be cranky and strict and make sure that each attendee places his screen name as well as his "real" name on the name tag, and then attaches the name tag to himself in a visible location.

We've tried name tags in the past and will keep on trying -- but they evidently don't suit some folks and get shed.  Maybe if I had little name hats made for one and all -- beanies, maybe, with a little flag thingie on it, with the name on that.  Yeah, those'd be cool.  I can see Sir Andy Green wearing one, maybe Glen, too.  How about you, Freud -- would you wear something that looks like a dunce cap - for the sake of making sure all know whom you are?

Okay -- here's some more Salt Talks '09 stuff, mostly a visual display of just what pasties really are.

Simply put, as a refresher, a pasty (pronounced PASS-tea) is a meat pie made of coarse ground beef, cubed or thin sliced potato, maybe some other veggie filler, onion, and seasoning.  This mixture is wrapped in a pie-crust-like dough and baked 'til the meat is cooked -- about forty-five minutes.  Here's a photo of a pasty:

Now -- to satisfy all of you who think that a pasty is what women wear when they want maximum exposure of their breasts -- but still adhere to some nudity laws.  In this case the word is pronounced PACE-tea, and they look like this:

And just for the heck of it, Nancy took some colored vinyl and sewed up some pasty pasties.  Here's what they look like:

Okay.  Got it straight yet?  We'll have a hundred pasties (PASS-tease) at Salt Talks, along with hamburgers and hot dogs and condiments and chips and Salt Talks t-shirts featuring the rides of some of the folks here on the Forum.  It's a by-donation picnic that starts around 6PM Sunday, 9 August (the day after racing BEGINS).  I am pretty sure we'll even have a band there this year -- Wild Turkey, from the land of Oz, is kicking off a tour of the States -- with a gig at Salt Talks, no less.  This'll be a fine year -- the tenth annual Salt Talks.  Be there or be square.

Okay, fans -- here it is!  The final proof of the art for the 2009 Salt Talks t-shirt.  Take a gander to see just what's gonna be on the shirts -- and get your order pads out to buy some.  In the past we've had a bunch of folks ask us to "save me one" or "save me three" or whatever -- and darned near all of those we save -- are unclaimed.  So this year I won't bother trying to save any (well, except for the folks whose vehicles are on the shirts -- they do get first dibs), so you'll need to either buy them at SpeedWeek -- or send money to reserve your shirt(s).  I don't have the final cost yet so I can't quote a price, but I expect they'll be in the $20 or less area.  After all -- this is a fundraiser for the website, so maybe the price will be a tad higher than if it were just another t-shirt store.  Deal with it -- so we can all keep dealing with the website.  Thanks in advance.

I hope you like the art -- I hope you like it so much that I need to increase the size of the order.  As of now we're ordering 120 shirts.  Let me know if you've got special size needs.  We're getting a few in small, a bigger few in medium, many in large, the most in XL, and a few in the even-bigger sizes (Yes, Charles, I've got your shirts in your requested size).

See you on the Salt!

We get the shirts -- landracing.com shirts as well as Salt Talks shirts, and even the printed fabric for the neck coolers -- fro C3Deep in southern Alabama -- pretty danged close to where Tonya and Kieth Turk live (close enough, in fact, that T & K put the shirts in their vehicle when the head for the Salt - saving us the cost of shipping.  Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Turk.

Anyway, Darryl is the guy that owns and operates C3Deep, but I don't know who his artist is.  But the person does, indeed, do nice work.  I know that I've been asked a number of times, over the years, to send a better quality photo because the first one I sent wasn't sharp enough.  To see all the fine detail, I suppose, or whatever.  I like that -- a nice and picky artist, which makes for a good-looking shirt.

Whatever -- if you're in the market for having some shirts (or other stuff) made -- give C3Deep a request for a quote.  I've got an email address, but don't think they've got a website.  Email to Darryl at:  c3deep@centurytel.net

End of post, and I'm shutting off the computer for the evening.  I'll be back tomorrow.  Thanks again for the compliments on the shirts.
