Karl's correct Dean. Photos like this have been showing up since that patch in the traps was layed down(as well as other places along the track).

I have a picture of me with the front wheel off the ground in the same place on Deb's bike, and it barely has power enough to lift the wheel in 2nd gear - let alone 6th  :-D.

There is still a cool factor in the photo of course, and as Deb has said all along... "no matter how it got there you had the front wheel off the ground at the speed you were doing, the photo doesn't lie".

A few additions from us:
Jakie Owen strutting his talents at breakfast:

Ok, I wasn't really taking a picture of Marci, but if you can look beyond Marci, maybe put your hand over the left side of the picture, you'll see the ECTA kittie litter shuffle crew demonstrating, according to Donna, how NOT to ride in a pick-up truck!  :-D

Todd leaving the line on his last run:

Eric, Racer-X, after a solid year of racing on his 250 finally made a new record over 100mph! So, in honor of his achievement and enthusiasm we awarded him with the "unofficial ECTA 100mph Record Club" pink hat!!!

Our star of the moment with the Guthries:

100 MPH club member in a sea of 200 MPH club green hats. I think they're taunting him!

Al the starter in his new camo shirt. Look close!

This one I'm borrowing from Commutabusa. Josh's bike is in the front and if you look in the back right you'll see the blonde head of my daughter peaking out of the back of my pickup truck. Susie Owen was admiring our use of the official "ECTA playpens" to keep our teenagers at bay. My daughter spent the bulk of the weekend in the bed of my truck & Jakie Owen in the back of their truck!  :-D In the background you'll find our original Registration Babe Susan aka Flipper with Lauren Owen.

My daughter took a bunch of pictures at the banquet. We'll post them up later.

Congradulations on the record.  The 250 looks good, sounds good and was fast enough for the record.

 jeez What a mess I made of the number thing. I read about using the points finish position as the bike number .It is somewhere in the rule book. But I did not tell Donna or Tonya I was doing it.Duh

I am glad they are so easy going.
Thank you to all the volunteers

lol. Well you earned the right to use it but yeah, it usually is helpful if you tell the girl's you're doing so!  :-D

In fact, it's helpful if you tell the girl's what you're doing at any given time even if it's what you normally do!

The number does look good on you! ;)

Some races have Grid Girls hold the signs.

Indy driver Dario Franchitti has his wife actress Ashley Judd hold his pit board.

At Maxton we had Cliff Vaughn, check out the body language.

When I first asked for volunteers to cover the Speed Sign for the competitors, I had one gal say she would do it, but she didn't want to do it all day, she has been at almost all of our Wanderlodge Owners Group  Bluebird / Maxton Mini-Rallies, but then after Saturdays racing was over, her comment was "This was the best Maxton that I have ever attended" she went onto explain that she felt that she was more involved in the event than just being a spectator and that the reactions from the drivers and riders was worth all of the effort that was involved, I witnessed a few of the reactions and they were indeed very energetic and sometimes almost ecstatic at seeing the speeds that they had accomplished and there were also a few disappointed reactions too.

She has volunteered to take over the chore to organize those wanting to help out with this job at our future Wanderlodge Owners Group  Bluebird / Maxton Mini-Rallies.  Cliff Vaughn, Barbara Vaughn, Pat Gideon, Nancy Brookshire, Nancy Rembert, Bruce Cambell and Laura Campbell handled the Speed Sign at the short shutdown road. I have been requested to get another chalkboard, for them to use, as they sometimes had two vehicles coming up the return road, one from short shutdown and the other from the end of the track and she said that they wanted everybody to see their speeds and felt that they were not doing as good of a job as they could have, so another chalkboard is on my shopping list, I did mention that a sign that had numbers that could be changed was available, but they preffere using the chalkboard. We will be back again with our next Wanderlodge Owners Group  Bluebird / Maxton Mini-Rallies, for the October race.

We encourage any of you that desire to come on by our parking area and say hello to our group and even come on down and join us at our campfires that we have each night weather permitting, we are just a bunch of gearheads, that just happen to own, restore and maintain our Bluebird Wanderlodges, you can view our photo album of the event at http://www.pbase.com/iamflagman/wanderlodge_owners_group_mini_rallies_at_maxton_and_other_races

OH YES, as a side note...Cliff says he will work on his body language too

Thanks very much to the folks who took the time to post the speed boards, I really appreciated it. Instant gratification (or at least instant feedback) is a great thing. -Dean

wonder how often the timing of the wheel
touching and not touching might effect the timing
eyes and accompanying speed calculation...

Hey Joe, I guess it would depend on how high the photocell is mounted. I don't know for sure, but it looks like it's pretty far off the ground, and thus not affected by the inch of free space under the tire.

I am going recruiting  :-P 8-)

I need to find some pit helpers/holders etc.. like the ones pictured a few post prior,,

Hmm, maybe some of the goth rat rod or pin up types would match the theme of my Vicky better ???
