I've received one rulebook so far.  That's the one that I get (I guess) for being one of the advertisers in the new book.  Then I'll get two (from mine and Nancy's individual memberships) more.

The first thing I do when I get a rulebook is to write the team name (Seldom Seen Slim) on the front, in the book, on the back, and especially on the top and side edges of the pages.  It's not that I'm worried about thieves, but rather that the books have been known to walk away when they're borrowed, whether in the pit or when I'm inspecting.  I suggest that you register your claim on your books, too.  Sharpie or magic marker works well.

Back to the tubes -- due to the Office using our old address we don't have anything yet -- except the single rule book.  That's as of this morning's (Saturday, 11 April) mail.  Soon, sooooooon...

Thanks Tom, that answers my question that our new M2005 helmet for the car last year is good for 2 more years.

Has anyone located the date stamp in a helmet yet?  I am searching and can't find one.  Thanks for the help understanding the changes to the updates.

Stainless -- and anyone else that looks for the date:

First of all, I don't know if all helmets have a "manufacture" date stamped anywhere.  A few brands do -- I haven't seen it in very many.

If you're asking about the Snell Foundation sticker, look carefully under the lining of the helmet.  You might end up having to pull some of the lining away from the padding, and that lining might be glued to the padding.  The sticker is about 3/4 inch by 2 1/2 or so, and is printed on a reflective foil (that'll be damaged if you try to remove it).  The numbers (i.e. M95, M2000, SA2005, etc) are often hard to see because of the reflective background and the faint ink used to print those numbers -- but they're there.  It's very common for us to hear, when we're inspecting the helmet, a racer say "I've never seen those numbers before this."

Dig deep.  They're not even placed in the same relative location from one manufacturer to the next.  On some helmets they're found at the back of the head, some by the right cheek, and so on.  But if it's Snell Foundation rated -- there WILL be a sticker in there.

SSS,
Finding the Snell sticker is easy.... never had a problem there, it is always inside under the lining or cushions.
I guess printing a label with a manufacturing date won't be that hard these days with computers... anybody know what one looks like.

In my helmet inspections I have seen very few actual date stamps. The stickers are for 5 years and the latest is 2005. So one would think the next would be 2010. Don't know about the 2011? So, a helmet bought new for this season will have a 2005 sticker and be good for this year only, maybe!?

The stickers are dated in five-year increments, so you'll find M95, M2000, M2005, and next year -- M2010.  Unless Snell Foundation changes the way they do their work -- the following one will be an M2015.  SCTA allows helmets up to nine years old -- so this year will be the last for mine with an M2000 sticker inside.

I have seen a date of manufacture sticker in a Suomy (foreign made) helmet, but otherwise I haven't seen any -- I think.

TSteve, if the rule is as posted, your new Snell 2005 could have been manufactured in 2005 and will be illegal to use after Jan 2011.  Check ebay, someone might be selling helmet date stickers by then... or maybe the rule makers will see the error of their ways... and think up something else....

relax folks----after the rules updates were posted the rule was changed your helmet is good for 10 years  so after jan 1 2011 you will need a 2005 because your 2000 will be outdated but your 2005 will be good until 2015  ---unless they change the rule again---it will all be clear when you get the new rule book                            willie buchta

Clear as mud, but when I get my book, as usual we will comply with the rules that pertain to us
Reminder to BNI rulemakers, changes should come to racers the Straight Away News... before the races is always good

I think I mentioned before that in 1966 we got the '67 rule book (same book with a new page stapled in) before leaving the salt. But there were no records in it and better yet no bikes.

I got my SCTA tube yesterday, with a poster, button, patch, and sticker, but no rulebook. Does the rulebook come separately? Thanks, Dean

Here's a picture of the page in the 2009 rulebook. The area in red is the rule update that's posted on the SCTA website. Sorry about my bad handwriting.
