How does " Loring Speed Fest " sound.

Caribou Maine Mile @ Loring -- Caribou actually has 2 references for Loring AFB - One is the old Nuke portion at Loring Caribou Air Force Station, and Caribou Maine is close.

The longest mile is the fifth mile at Bonneville on a return record run, can you hold your breath that long.

I didn't know you were supposed to breathe on a return record run...  or open your eyes.... for any of the timed miles

"can you hold your breath that long."
When I used to live nearer the ocean and I was more of a snorkel dork, I  could hold my breath almost three minutes, over four at total rest . Now I can't hold my water for three minutes. ( Hope that extra cockpit drain tube gets by tech )
If your vehicle is seriously fast, say 240 in the traps, and your acceleration is linear, you average 120 for the five miles, right ? that's two miles a minute or two and a half minutes to hold your breath ?
As for The Name , I did get an anonymous suggestion, "Broadway in Maine", considering the runway is 300 ft wide.
MMM is ok, just a little too Maxton Mile-like, and it ain't a mile.
Maybe "Aroostook 7920", that'll confuse everybody.
AND we need a new name for the Salt Talks type get together Poolside at the Caribou Inn Sat night. Rendezvous is probably out as there is a nearby popular Rendezvous Pizza/restaurant

I end up holding my breath as soon as the starter pulls the harness straps tight because I can't breath any more anyway!  How about just:  The Loring Long Mile?   DickJ

Hey Bob, here is another thought for you...  instead of running 7920 fet, why not run 282 feet more for 8202 and make it a 2.5 Kilo event....
Then you could call it the 2.5K Maine Event or 2.5@ME.....
YEA, racers always want just a little more distance...

"instead of running 7920 feet, why not run 282 feet more for 8202 and make it a 2.5 Kilo event" ?
Safety mainly ( Maine-ly?)
1.5 miles, 7920 ft leaves about a mile for shutdown. Considering we don't officially know the traction characteristics of our runways' mixed concrete /asphalt surface, we felt a mile and a half was the extreme for year one.
We'll reconsider  after this years meet, OK ?
Unless you have a deal on paving, then there's about 8 miles on the north end before Canada.
