Paxton Supercharger question.
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:20:19 AM »
Hello.
Anyone out there have some experience with a Paxton Supercharger? I acquired a Paxton SN-60. I am thinking of mating it to a 406 Pontiac V8, with twin Carter AFB, model # 3896S carbs. My questions are what is the boost on the Paxton and will there be enough CFMs to work with the 11.2-1 compression of the Pontiac?
Thank you in advance. Ralph Thomas

If I knew anything I'd be (more) dangerous . . . .

Seems to me that the 11.2 CR is a bit high to start adding boost.  I'll be interested to see what wisdom is added here.

What's that Poncho going into?

It was accidentally posted on for sale. Sorry. The car is the 14 year NHRA Record Holding Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon of Larry Pacey back in the 1970-80s.

I agree that 11.2 cr is high but depending on how good the bottom end is could be good for 5-7 psi if the charge is not hot.

Putting boost on a motor designed to make HP NA is living on the edge.
I would recomend an engine rebuild with boost in mind if you are looking for real HP.

I bought one of the Paxton sn 2000 superchargers from a friend who took it off his car he was selling. Not knowing much about the sn series of blowers. After researching them to figure out boost figures to pulley ratios I realized I made a mistake . I found out it would only make 5 to 7 psi on a 350 and the bearings inside them take a lot of power to turn. In my opinion save your money and buy a newer novi series Paxton , procharger or Vortech. Your c.r. sounds to high for gas, if you want to run any boost and for your carbs go with a good blow through design like  a C.S.U. or pro systems. Just talk to these companies before you buy anything it will save you money and headaches in the long run.
