MAYOMAN:
I was there in 1968, watching Mickey and Danny racing on the international course and the 10-mile circle course while setting numerous records in several different Mustang racers. Also, in attendance was Burt Munro spectating. Joe Petrali invited me to watch and learn about racing at Bonneville, since we were planning to run The Blue Flame in 1969. When Mickey learned I had never been there he had me hop into the Mustang Mach II for an education on the international course. We just cruised along at 150 to 160 mph as he lectured. Joe told Mickey we were going to try for the absolute world land speed record. Mickey responded, "You had better have a ton of money!" I told him we did. He was very generous with his time and I got some cool movie film of the yellow Mustang running through the lights.

Thank you for your memories.
I saw Danny Ongais in Le Mans '80 and '82. Always very fast with the turbocharged Porsche 935.
