Mike, I just sent you a "pm".  Seeing as how you're new -- after you log in to the Forum you'll find a strip of tabs across the upper left part of the page, and one of them is labeled "My Messages".  Click on that and you'll get a page showing the PM (private message).  Welcome to the Forum and the site.

Hi. My name is Mike Stewart and I ran a gas roadster at El Mirage and Bonneville in the 70s and early 80s with my wife Priscilla. The name of the car was Family Affair. It was a yellow 29 roadster with a 354 Hemi engine on gas. I got in the El Mirage and Bonneville 200 clubs with the car when I ran A/GR. I just recently was given a link to this site and enjoy it very much. I have a lot of old pics from the 50s to the 80s and will see if I can post some. I have to say Hi to Burly. Have seen some of your pics of my dad on here. Very cool.

Wow Mike, great to hear from you on here. This is a fantastic site and you will really enjoy what you see and read. As you noticed, I even use a photo of me with your dads 1962 Bonneville roadster as my avatar. Your dad and that car was the beginning of my salt flat fever and I miss him dearly. This site even helped me find Dick Zook this year so it is helpful in many ways. Please PM me your email address so I can keep in touch. And get some more pics from your dad and Jim Seabridge posted.

All -
Floydjer has posted the well known and often published photo of Theodore Tetzlaff (aka Terrible Teddy) in his Maxwell taken at the conclusion of the speed trials in 1914.  His passenger, while not positively identified, is thought to be Salt Lake City Mayor Samuel Park.  A number of state and local dignitaries ventured out to the salt to see the trials, among them Utah Governor William Spry.
Truth be told, I'm sure there was no toking going on, but Tetzlaff was known as a heavy drinker and was a morphine addict to boot at the time of the speed trials.  He used the drug for pain and headaches he suffered from an accident in 1910.  He may have been very relaxed when he went 142.85 mph through the mile course.

Happily afflicted with salt fever since 1988.

Very well. I went and looked at this car before buying Mel Swain's Modified Roadster. As I recall it would have taken a lot of work to make it legal for the rule changes that have been made since it was last run. But the car was complete as last ran with a blown turbo.

I also remember one year at El Mirage where either they or Kaplan and Carr would set top time of the meet, as I recall with speeds around the 270 mark.

Wowie.  It's the other Mike Stewart.  You're the reason my dad is "Miler" Mike Stewart.

Now to keep this post on topic I will say that I do have some old photos from my dad that I will try to scan and post soon.
