Here are a few shots I took of the Polywog Summers Brothers liner that came before the Goldenrod.

They say it was ill handling but it sure looked and went neat...................

It would be great if there was info about the drive train layout, Front drive right? Did it have an open diff or posi?  Why was it ill handling?????  Anyone?

There was a feature story on the Summers Brothers Polywog and it's construction in a period early sixties issue of Hot Rod magazine. Does anyone have an accessible copy with the answers?

Yrs truly is guessing incorrect scrub radius.

The late Ed Rannberg of later Eyeball Engineering electric bikes and streamliner fame  built a dragster with a  Triumph M/C engine using German Lloyd FWD components about the time of the Polliwog and it went anything but straight under power, wrong wheel offset to "Kingpin" centerline was the suspect, though he gave up on the project quickly.

Incidentally, my former injector pump delivered fuel to the Polliwog -(very weak claim to fame).

You have to look at all the successful Indy cars with FWD in the day  -and several currently running LSR cars to discredit the idea otherwise.

Yup, might take me a while to find it but it's Don Francisco's article about Speedweek......he also uttered the precient words that "...the story of Burt's travels would make a great movie script"...or something similar...

I think it "hunted" something severe before they got it sorted ....then maybe broke something after they did???....

I'll fish it out.

The Summers bros trailer is a small, special semi trailer for a regular fifth wheel. It would have been pulled by the single axle Dodge tractor sitting behind the body panels lying on the floor.

Here's an aerial shot with the cab apparently doing double duty as a chase vehicle... and Bob Herda at bottom!

The archive I've got was Alex Tremulis' collection.  He deserves all the credit for capturing these moments in history.

I just plucked the aerial shot from Google Images.  I was searching for better photos of the cab.  That Goldenrod transport combo was one great looking rig!

Multy always had an arm full of red garters from the Red Garter Hotel/Casino that he passed out. The ladies on my crew would hang their legs out the window as we drove by and Multy would properly place a gater on each leg. Fun times, they are missed.

Oh man, I actually remember this!  I must have been maybe 4 or 5 years old but I remember getting that garter as we drove onto the salt and having it on the rear view mirror in my dad's truck for what seemed like forever.  Seeing that garter in the off season always reminded me of being at Bonneville... so much so that 20 something years later (a couple of years ago) I looked all over to find that garter again so I could put it in one of my vehicles.  I never found it but I'll never forget it either.  Neat.

Here is a poor picture of the old article. August 61 HRM. Shows the layout and chassis. You can see the model and the real body came out a little different. Picture of a picture, scanner was giving me issues.
