Slim I have the book and have seen a couple for around $75.00 at the swap meet. It's a great book and should sell for a good price.

Glen:

It's a fun read, isn't it?  I relate to so many of the things -- sounds, smells, and the descriptions of driving on the Salt.  I just found the part where Mickey talks about Bob Higbee starting him and the Challenger on a run.  The general public wouldn't pick up on that stuff -- racers sure will.  Yup, a good book.

I have a 1st edition copy in my collection I picked up years ago in a used bookstore. Interesting bio from MT perspective, good pix. It ends with him building the Indy car with great anticipation. Unfortunately that didn't end well....

the liner might be one built by Jocko Johnson, looks like his style. Do you know what year these were taken.
The red and yellow n°671 is the ex-Beast III with a bigger engine. Also in the photo, Chet Herbert's Beast IV, Bob Estes Mecury, Mal Hooper's Shadoff-Special and Fred Carillo's n°17. A fantastic photo. The year is 1953.

Debgeo, I guess now that I've let the book out of the shelf (paraphrasing there) that I should start the "auction", even though I'll have to tell all that it won't get shipped 'til I finish reading it.

I've got a busy morning, trying to get a wedding photo of two rather portly folks changed from full color to half-tone B/W so I can engrave it on the backside of a mirror -- but maybe once I've figured that out I can explore how to do the auction.  Soon, hey?

Jon, we do autions on other boards all the time, really simple. PM me if you want tips. I have one going on the HAMB right now.

Does anyone remember a lakes racer from SoCal who drove a purple primered motorhome and raced a 53? Studebaker? An old friend of his who doesn't use the comptuer was wondering what ever became of the Stude. He thought his friend died about 15 years ago. Says he's seen the car around but not in the last few years. I don't imagine a purple primered motorhome would be easy to forget. Anyone shed some light on this?
