I asked a friend of mine Dick Clark if he had any old Bonneville photos. This is the
Babler-Clark lakester in 1962. This car was the So-Cal Bellytanker

Here is a picture with the bodywork. Dick said it didnt work well with the bodywork. slowed the car down.

and this i think is a GREAT picture. Dick Clark 1962 just got into the 200mph club. 2007 Dick is in the 300mph club. keep chasing your dreams!!!!

well..... did Ben Jordan ever get to race?

 My first trip to the salt with him was in 1973 we ran H/GT. He drove every year. Ben set the I/GT record at 120.872 in 1980, the record fell in 1992. In 1982 I drove the car Hydrogen powered as a time only entry. Martyn, Stainless and I crewed for him and helped him build car 1000 the Bockscar, which we still run today. Ben was a very interesting person and a great friend and mentor to us.

Bill Temple and Frank Salzberg lay waste to one Hemi as they go after fuel roadster records. Greg Temple put the hurt on the D/Blown Fuel Roadster Record at 241 MPH in 1981 and hasn't been broken since. Some footage I thought some would like to see. They literally blew the first engine in half and exposed all the cylinder liners in the WE55 Windsor Poly block after experimenting with a Nitro and Nitrous Oxide combination. This is the kind of thing that goes on at Speedweek.... Experimentation

OK finally had one view, so here are some more.  Everyone feel free to post their old pictures on here, my photo skills were limited with the $10 camera I used for years, so you real photo takers jump in with the good stuff.  (Ferd, that's your que)

The Barber-Nichols Steamin Demon was after the steam powered record.... FIA, SCTA, AAA, USAC they didn't care who timed it as long as they went faster that the standing record.  They did!  They may still be the fastest steamer... 

Heres a photo from my files showing the "steamer" heading down course.

While all those collective memory cogs are turning, this is the perfect excuse to ask if anybody can date this pic from the Don Fetherson book - Heroes of Hot Rodding. The caption says it's Ak Miller who set a class C record with an early Cobra. It's Ak OK but not a Cobra. Ignoring the nostril intake, the nose shows that it's actually an earlier AC Ace fitted with a 260 motor. I had a bit of a rummage around and found out that AC shipped at least one Ace minus engine to a US buyer some time in the late 50s. Could this be it I wonder. And if it is, is begs the question, did Ak (who knew Shelby for sure) get there before him to create a 'Cobra' or was he inspired by Shelby to drop a Ford motor into an Ace he just happened to have handy?

Robin, here is a photo I took of Ak's ACE at Bonneville. I think the year is 63 but it could be 62. As I remember, he was inspired by Shelby to create this Bonneville special.

Was the Karmann-Ghia a Benham car like the Ill-Eagle Crosley?

Yes, but powered by first an air cooled VW and then later, a 1500cc watercooled Fiat. Ron had an Opel GT nose mold and built a few different front ends to adapt to various cars. Don "Dingus" Watkins drove the Ghia and Rons son Norm pedaled the Crosley. Ron also created the Pontiac Tempest 4 powered lakester shown below.
