What's on YOUR platter?
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:50:28 PM »
I've been spending so much time in the garage of late that I finally dragged a stereo out and set it up.

Been listening to a lot of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, some Dave Edmunds, and when the compressor kicks on, some Social Distortion or Pistols, which can always be heard over anything.

Music is something I hold dear, as I play in a couple of bands.  I'm aware of other LSR types who play as well, and also take their music seriously.

Just curious as to what other folks are listening to while working on their cars.

I like to listen to Django Reinhart and Stephane Grappelli among others. Jerry Reed just died  so I've been cranking up "East Bound And Down" on my shop stereo lately.

There are only two kinds of music.  Country and Western.

And I can't tell them apart...   :|

I also have a computer in the garage, along with a good power amp and speakers.

If you download Apple's free iTunes software, it provides access (under "Radio") to hundreds of online radio stations. Here are some of the ones I listen to:

Morow - commercial-free contemporary progressive rock
http://www.morow.com/

Radioio - dozens of good stations, including "Big Band" and "Real Jazz"
http://www.radioio.com/

SomaFM's Sonic Universe - commercial-free cutting-edge jazz from Europe and beyond

Jerry Reed will be missed - I've been trying to play "The Claw" for 6 years and still haven't figured it out.

Django and Jerry - great guitarists.

Comcast commercial in the shop.  I play a lot of pandora.com - old blues, 40's & 50's mostly.  Country blues generally, sort of, but Muddy Waters (with band) yes, BB King (with band) no.  Sinple stuff.

And, as long as you drink enough first, if you ever get a blue-hot chip of steel in your eye or accidentally punch a louver in your thumb, it won't hurt as much, right?

My taste changes daily... Mozart if I'm putting something together... Wanda Jackson if I'm painting, and if I'm tearing something apart... You can't beat Dropkick Murphy. Working with my wife in the shop  she insists on something that has "Country" in the title. I've also gone overboard with XM radio, and have it in my car, and truck plus my Direct TV has it included with it... Fungus 53, and Bluesville 73... not to mention the Art Bell reruns on channel 165. :-D

...il contrere, the two types of music are good and bad......that of course is personal opinion ,  but .

Currently , a weird mixture , actually nearly always a weird mixture. I just drove home from the country and I had Mp3's going that included The Black Crowes, Bowie, Tom Waits , Ryan Adams, Johnny Winter, the Friggin Beatles !, The Small Faces , Steve Earl, Victoria Williams ,Lucinda, Bob, Jonathon Richman, The Butthole Surfers, Albert King,Elvis Costello , Nick Lowe .....and some Aussie Hip-Hop.....

If you can sit in my car when the stereo is blastin ...and I'm singin' .....then you like it LOUD. :-o

I should of course add Stones, Gram, Jimmy Cliff, the Duane Allman anthology, Talking Heads , Sly Stone , early Dwight.........
