vintage engine questions
« on: September 09, 2008, 10:56:51 AM »
I am not looking at building a car with a vintage engine, but when I read the discription of the XO class I have some questions.

First 1959 or earlier design.  Ford introduced the 332 FE in 1958 so it, and all other FE's are legal to run in the XO class as long as it is under 325cid, XXF or XXO 325-375cid

What about the SBC? 1955?

When do heads become "speciality" heads?

What am I missing? Original engine dimensions?  Cast heads only?
Just trying to wrap my head around this.
Thanks

XO & XXO has to be inline engines.

.........or flathead V-8's (other than Ford or Mercury), V-12's or flathead inline motors,

It's amazing how often people misread this rule. The class would be a lot different if 392s were allowed.

Or Packard V8's
Mike Kelly - PROUD owner of the V4F that powered the #1931 VGC to a 82.803 mph record in 2008!

Packards might be OK. I think I can see that.

Just think if a Chevy 265, morphed in to a Dart 350 block would run in a roadster. It began as a Vintage engine, not so much now.
