"Salt Flat Speedway" on the National Geographic channel
« on: August 29, 2008, 03:38:46 AM »
I just noticed this is on right now.

Using this site's search I found some mention of this show before it had been broadcast, but none since. It's pretty well-done, and most everyone on here would find it interesting.

Here's the description for the show in the TV listings: "Each year Bonneville Speed Week sees the Bonneville Salt Flats transformed into one of the greatest racing surfaces on the planet."

If I notice that it is going to be repeated again, I'll update this thread. You'll see many people you know or have heard of.

After search the National Geographic site, I found no reference to Salt Flat Speedway in their store, but they have a preview of it here:

Boy would I LOVE to see that program in High Def on my TV.  PLEASE post here if you can find some advance notice.  I'll look as well and post if I find anything.  Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure if it's been mentioned on here but the Discovery program that they were filming for last week is suppose to air in Dec.  Will update when I hear an exact date and time.

The camera work was quite good. There's a fair amount of in-car camera footage, which on its own makes the program well worth watching.

There are a number of shots with Keith Turk talking, and several comments from (and in-streamliner footage with) Andy Green.

The DVD done at the BUB meet where the shoot-out between the 3 bike liners occurred is EXCELLENT. The filming is beautiful and the editing gives a very true feeling of the excitement of record attempts.

The name is: THE WORLD'S FASTEST MOTORCYCLE It was produced by Ignition 3 and Chet Burks Productions.

It also has an additional segment about the EasyRider record .
It is a 2 hour video.

It's worth searching for.

Agreed. Very highly recommended. I bought my copy from the AMA site. Here's a link:

The production is first-rate, and features superb narration by Dave Despain.
