Long Lines At Bonneville.........
« on: August 27, 2008, 02:09:59 AM »
Last year people were complaining about the long lines at Bonneville. This year with the 3rd "special" course the wait to make a run was never longer than about 2-3 hours!

A HUGE THANK YOU  to all the volunteer's and workers for making this one of the best Speed Weeks EVER!!
The organization, implementation, & execution of this event will be a baseline for every meet in the future.

Thanks to the SCTA and everyone involved.

I am amazed at how well the whole event works.  The SCTA workers provides us with great courses and many services.  I try to thank each worker I come in contact with during the event.  Words can not express my gratitude to all of the people who make it possible for us to run at Bonneville.  I intend to send a note to the SCTA/BNI and thank them.

Before we left, we were told to expect one pass max per day and were very surprised at how short the lines and waits were.  We never waited more than 2 hrs on the short course or special.

Kudos to the SCTA/BNI crew for a very professionally run and well organized event.  I often wait longer at the dragstrip.  Sled pulling?  You wait all day and get one attempt, then go home.

The only long lines were @ Inspection on Sunday, but that was to be expected. The 3 course setup was great! After the drivers meeting Monday we drove down the regular Short Course, as erged by Roy Creel. We noticed that the Special Short Course didn't have much of a line. We hadn't planned on running the first day, but went back to the Pits, warmed the car, changed the plugs, towed to the staging lanes and only waited an hour.

The new "special" short course totally rocked as did our handsome "special" course starters!  (And y'all said the starters were scary & mean!  8-) ) You are right, it was like having a private meet way in the outback!!! For us East Coasters that are only used to one track it was just like home with a little more elbow room! You just had to look out for the cross roads, remember to yield when necessary & be polite!

During the wind delay on the regular short course the starters were commenting that a suggestion was made and not acted on to set up the short course as a full second long course. I think that would be the next great thing the management could do, if it's possible, as there were times when there was no wait on either short course but still a line on the long course. At that point they could have doubled the long courses & cut the short down to one and things would have flowed wonderfully!!

At any rate due to the 3rd course runs were plenty, waits were tollerable & if you stayed long enough you could have hot lapped! Darnit if I wasn't wishing you would have stayed until Saturday Fred!!! I was beyond ready for that most graciously offered busa ride!  :-D

I was able to hot lap the long course on Friday and Saturday. The key seemed to be to wait till after 1PM or so and then the line seemed to simply vanish. It was very, very nice.

The non-existent short course lines (after Wednesday or so) also gave the long course cars an additional venue to do shake down runs without any waiting at all.

All in all, an excellent event.   :-D

They were calling for drivers / riders on Thursday before the winds came up. Some were hot lapping the short course most of the AM.

This was a good year all around at speed week. The racers new and old with a couple of exceptions were great. The cooperation when we had down time had few complaints. We ran from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm except for the wind shortened. Warnerville was always full of vehicles and the starting lines were moving them as fast as they could. With 2488 runs the most ever and a 3rd course made it all possible. It took a lot of adjustment to keep up with the announcing and what each one was doing. We had a lot of radio traffic in the timing trailer, a bit noisy at times.
Thanks to all who made it happen.  :-D

Glen,

Having the CB broadcast air on the AM Channel really worked well. Most of the spectators didn't have CB's but could follow along. In the pits and staging lanes we only needed to have one radio on then switch to CB only during run and return.

Now if people would just figure out that making a special request of the Timing Tower when there were three vehicles on the courses was not a good idea.

GREAT JOB !!

We couldn't believe that we made 4 runs in one day!  That is what we usually run the entire week.  Great job SCTA and all who voluntered. :-D
