max get back to work--before you do though answer me this---how much lead did you run on your front motor when the 2 motors were chained together----love your work-- thanks willie buchta
Hey Willie,
This is what I know about front engine lead: When running two Triumphs (vertical twins), Boris Murray ran 3 to 7 degrees. He ran a single row roller chain, I think a 530. Not sure on that. Anyway he started at 3 degrees, and when the chain stretched to a 7 degree lead, he'd put a new chain on it and start all over.
Dave Campos, when he ran a double on the drag strip, kept his at around 5 to 10 degrees. The Easy Rider streamliner ran 5 degrees, however, the 5 degrees hung in there pretty good, as it had a HYVO chain between the motors.
Bonny Truett, with all of his doubles, ran around 10 to 13 degrees.
I've run everything from 0 to 15 degrees. The Vincents seem to like around 7 degrees. At least when it gets to 7 degrees the chain lasts longer. I get more runs at 7 degrees, so I deduce that that's the sweet spot.
Good Luck on this year's racing. See ya on the salt.
Max
