Muroc dates
« on: November 09, 2020, 10:12:02 PM »
 https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/?year=1940&country=1

This photo says June 19 1940 which was a Wednesday , I would have thought it would be Sunday, maybe June 16

Would anyone have a record of race dates in 1940 ?

It could be a Promotional photo of Sam Parriott and just got dated June 19 , a few days before solstice , longest hottest day maybe

the cars dont give a clue to the era

Friday,

Don't know if this helps or not, but under the first picture in this article it has the same date.

June 19 was a Wednesday ,  those kids should be at school , little.... ...

I sent email to ahrf see what they might have

April sounds more sensible than June. the Muroc trials says "annual trials" which I would guess would be about the same time, first Sunday of April maybe

The annual SpeedWeek has been run in August and September.... Maybe it was a multi day event...

When I was a kid, we got out of school two weeks into June. Started on the third week of September.

Same for me, Rich. Another thing, by the time they took the film in to get it developed and  got it back could have been months later. Easy enough to get the date wrong. They probably didn't consider it a historical document at that time either.

California must have been different then too.  :?
We went to school just after Labor Day, out by Memorial Day.... 101 days of summer.

I'm with Elmo and Rich.  California dates into June and starting mid-September.  I always thought it was a slight adjustment to skirt the hottest days.  We were lucky to sometimes have open windows.

I know that some states that were "farm states" worked around harvest times for their crops.

It was probably an A.M.A. sanctioned event, not S.C.T.A.

The were a lot of timing associations beside S.C.T.A. running at Muroc.
