Bonneville Pre-entries
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:05:03 PM »
Has anyone heard from BNI about the pre-entry numbers?

With gas and diesel prices what they are I would expect the numbers to be down a little, and more people on the fence waiting to see what happens.

I guess a lot of people did a better job with their fuel budget than me. See you all there!

Either that or they figured they only needed enough money to get to the salt. Coming home is something you can always worry about later. :-P

I just sat down yesterday and figured out my projected fuel cost for speedweek, sacramento to wendover and back, not including ERC bill, I am budgeting $900-$1000. That was at $4.50 a gallon.

I wish my sponsor was Exxon-Mobil instead of Social Security.

As Racers we must be nuts to do this, but that's redundant!

Now this is going to sound a little silly but please bear with me.  I wonder how many racers like myself haul a thousand pounds or better of ballast both ways every year?  It would sure be nice if we had a locked yard like at El Mirage where we could leave the stuff.  I suppose with all the methheads out there, someone would cart the whole pile off, but as it is, I am thinking about filling the whole car with helium.........I know, I know, I am already full of hot air............. :-D

Bob,

Not as silly as it sounds. BNI stores stuff in Wendover. Maybe they could come up with a rate to store stuff, cubic yard for x-bucks, etc. with no liaibility.

Hey, you know -- maybe I'll look into storage out there in Wendover.  that is, part of my business here is a pair of 40'x100' metal pole buildings, 13 1/2' clearance, that I rent out to folks for storing their boats, RVs, toys, etc.  My charge up here is $2.50 - $3.00/running foot (assuming the stored item is on the order of 8' wide).  You could store your 20' long trailer with whatever you wanted to store for 50-60 bucks/month.  There is no 24-hour access -- I have the only key, so no one will steal your stuff when they're in there because I'm escorting them.  I wonder if I could find someone out there to sell me an acre or two to put up such a building and babysit it for me/us...

I'll look into it.  Even if racers don't fill it -- I betcha I could get some other business locally - maybe storing junk cars for the residents, so they don't have cluttered-up front yards.  Oh, poop -- that's right, they LIKE cluttered up front yards.  They call it "inventory".

I bet you could buy the hangar at the airport for $1.50! If you are serious Jon, I would look at the NV side as property taxes should be lower.

I'll find a way not only to get there but get back home. That need for speed gremlin in me just won't go away. Maybe the crew will help defray some of the cost this year. Sponsors pockets are getting empty due the out of control budget issues this country is suffering under now. Their even cutting staffing in law enforcement up this way due to high costs. The bad guys will love that. Oh well, the quick change is almost in, other '08 modifications done and car will be ready by month end. That is a positive change from the last minute thrashing we all have experienced over the years.
See you there, hope you all can make it, sad to hear some can't.

If they are past 460 entrys already, not many are turned off by fuel cost. I'll put fuel on the credit card and pay for it later. I won't sleep in my truck or a tent. No rooms-no Rich
