Questions about Classic Gas Coupe
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:18:36 AM »

I was looking at the rule book, and there is not much specifics regarding the class.  It mentions must follow production or modified class for body mods.\

My question(s) is i regards to interior.  In production it says aluminum door panels are acceptable, as is a metal full dash.  Carpet headliner, chrome may be removed from interionr, but gutting is not allowed?  THat seems to contradict itself.  Of course, this may not even apply to classic gas coupe.

So, if I am building a car for classic gas coupe, and it has a bare interior, with a full aluminum dash and aluminum door panels, will I be legal?

Also, when looking at the records, it list A B C E, if D is not listed does that mean its an open record?

  Thanks,

  JEremy

If the "D" class is not listed you may IMPLY that a record hasn't been established -- but there have been misprints in the listings in the past, so don't build your vehicle for that specific class -- without first asking SCTA/ECTA or whomever -- to clarify that the record is indeed, open.

Been there, done that, won't happen to us again.

The way I understand it is that the requiments are the same as gas coupe with the added requiments for it to fit in classic gas coupe.

A D/Classic Unblown Gas Coupe record of 221+ is listed in both the 2007 Rule Book and the SCTA website.

Like most other race rules that evolve over time, they know what they want now, but don't write it down with the same speed.
The requirements for stock interior have been relaxed because it did not change the performance potential of the vehicle, and only complicated the driver safety objective.
"Gutting" is a leftover term from that era, and now is taken to mean that removing OEM strength structures is not allowed.

Oh my !  I think I must ave missed an entire chapter in the rules concerning interior. I am building a glass bodied 1933 Ford Vicky.  My plan was to be in Class Gas Coupe Altered... It will be a fenderless hi boy style sedan. It does have a dash and seat.. A fiberglass firewall with ceramic heat coating and a metal .090 thick firewall between the interior and the motor.

My question is !!!  Do I have to have a headliner? door and interior panels?  or any floor covering (it does have a metal reinforced glass floor.

Any help or guidence would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.  I see the record on the site.  It just was not listed in the old rule book I got.  Even though it appears the record was made several years before my rule book was made.

Depending on the year book you have, that may be true.
Before the "Classic Class" was defined to split it off from what was considered "Modern", some of the records had been eclipsed by newer machinery.
When the "Classic Class" was introduced, those records that applied were restored to the book.

Just this past weekend, it was suggested that as soon as the rear
mot(h)ered coupes are established with their own class, they are going to go after that "Wheel on a Stick' advantage the bikes enjoy and set up a class that includes tow behind race trailers for all car classes , including Streamliner.  8-)

As long as it generates a smile, you can expect it will be welcomed. 8-)

If the "D" class is not listed you may IMPLY that a record hasn't been established --
The word you want there is INFER, not IMPLY.

Another question regarding Gas Coupe Class. The rule book refers to stock frames and bodies. Is it permitted to put a front subframe under it?
