What event for First timer?
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:27:07 PM »
Planning on making a trip to Bonneville this year, from Indiana.

Just wondering what event would be better for a first time spectator?

Also, we are thinking about running one of our street cars.  Are there certian classes for first timers?  Not expecting to be to fast, and figure probably not allowed to be anyway!

THe car has to be built to meet the scta safety standards for the speed of the standing record for what the car-displacement class it will run in.

You will have to go through licensing stages but you could get to 500 mph in a day.

World of Speed .......... a lot more user-friendly for a first timer with a street-legal ride.

Also, no problem with hotel room availability.

Where are you in Indiana?  I'm originally from Indianapolis.

Do it ......... you won't regret it.

I see.

Don't think I'll will be going that fast!

Honestly, I would be happy to go 150.  Just to say I've ran on the salt is good enough for me.

I am in NEw Albany, IN which is right by Lousville KY.

  Thatnks for the tip.

YEah, I know.  everyone says, if you go as a spectator, you will come back as a racer, so we figure we might as well go with a car the first time.

My car is a bit more than a street car, so I am not sure if I would want to try the 150mph club or a class of some sort with a higher speed possiblity.

  Tell me what you think.

  Car,

  1988 Camaro IROCZ

The car is actually built for outlaw street drag racing, but I have all the street cahssis parts still, stiff springs/shocks, sway bars etc.

It has a 427 Big block that dynoed at 802 hp on alcohol, but we switched back to gas, so it is probably about 750hp now.

I plan to put a beefed up 700r4 in place of the powerglide, and use the lock up converter on a switch.

I have no idea what rear gears to run.  I have a street rear with 3.27, but I think those may be to low, something in the 2 range be better?

  Here is a pic!

Does the car have a roll cage? Safety belts? Parachute?

Car has a 10 point cage (added since pic) 5 point harness, no chute.

Car is NHRA legal, battery kill switch, fuel lines, things like that.
